LS1 Vs BMW Sedan (E34 540i)
So, decided to roll with a friend from Bimmerforums who was hanging out at my house around midnight last night.
540i Auto, versus a T/A.
Cliff Notes: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...d=20251 47696
Run one:
Interstate roll, 4th gear in the TA at approximately 70MPH.
Eased into the throttle and pulled 3 or so carlengths to 105 (top of fourthish)
Brakelights, then Lee pulls up again.
75 MPH roll, leave the TA in fifth. Lee gets a few feet of a jump, and then pulls steadily til the TA hit about 105 (just getting into the power)
About what I expected.
Given emptier highways, I would've tried to run fifth all the way.
3rd run: (70 MPH) TA WOT in 4th. pulls ~2-3 carlengths to 95 or so.
Just for kicks, we took a 30~ mph roll on an onramp.
Pulled about 4 CLs to 80 or so (shifting around 4500 RPM)
Last run:
Z28 Driver in Passenger seat of 540i calls me a ricer for roll on racing (never raced from a dig)
Line up on a stopsign to access road. Traffic is clear. 3 honks from the 540iA. 540 does not stall up, just wide open from the stop. TA is slow on the reaction, also does not rev, just into gear, roll, throttle.
about 20MPH, tires slide a little, shift hard to second. pass the 540 (which had about half a carlength from bumper to bumper. shortshift to 3rd around 60, and into 4th at 80, about 5 carlengths again.
I really like the BMW, but the V8 has no mod potential (short of FI and major work that costs 6k+)
The fact that he has an automatic and not a 6 speed killed him too.
A few members at Bimmerforums commented that it didn't look like he was racing.

What!? LOL. Douchbags. You've got a 50-60 hp advantage and you weigh 500 lbs. less. WTF do they expect?

It's a 1995 Model. I think they were like 88-96 for that body style.
It looks pretty good to me. (just slow)
You should see some of this crap...

Guy in a 325i with 20" wheels beats a Gran Sport to 130. :rofl
I just like to place a little reality for them.
I need to get a hold of one of the crappy E36 guys to tear up. Next time I'm in Bham....

Ya BMW owners are retarded. I've raped a 323 and a 330 (both high '90's) w/ my '91 5spd 3.1 GP, and i've raped one in my '91 a4 GP w/ my best friend in the car. Happy those BMW owners were NOT Especially the one in which i beat w/ my best friend.. he was F*CKING pissed. He he stared at me and flipped me off as I went to the offramp and I pointed and laughed.
Cocky little sons a'bitches arent they?

In a BMW the ****** are on the inside. =)

That BMW is an e34. I was looking at one for a daily driver, but desided to keep my e30 instead. e34's are nice cars, but they are slow, heavy and are nice for just driving. Unless it is a e34 M5 then it would be faster.

Explain something for me.
Why in the blazes of hell do you shift at 4500 when racing? 5th at 75mph? You should be in THIRD!
Also, your video link is broken. Care to fix it?

I'll add it to photobucket if that doesn't work.
I shortshifted the last two races because I already had a few lengths on him.
75 MPH is very close to the end of my 3rd gear. I was told when I bought the car that it had 3.73s, but I don't know the accuracy of that information.
I would assume so since I can only do around 110ish before the redline in 4th.
When you race a brand new 760, lemme know how that goes. The one I've driven will plant your tail pretty good.
I know it's an E34. I know it would be faster with a 6 spd manual.
He just wanted to know where he stood.
.... behind me... and everyone that lives at my house...
1) bolt on LT1 with 4.10s
2) My T/A with 3.73
3) Bolt ons/tuned 275 HP Saab 9-3 Turbo.

It works for me and others. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...oid=2025147696

1st: 50
2nd: 75
3rd: 103
4th: 134
5th: 181
6th: 267
(note: a stock LS1 doesn't have enough power to get to redline in 5th or 6th)
3.73:1 gears:
1st: 46
2nd: 69
3rd: 94
4th: 123
5th: 166
6th: 245
4.10:1 gears:
1st: 42
2nd: 63
3rd: 86
4th: 112
5th: 151
6th: 223
So, it sounds to me like you have 4.10 gears. Put it in your sig!
Oh, and now that I have watched (and listened to) your video, I just want to comment that you need to shift faster when you're racing.
