Torque arm bushing replacement

Torque arm bushing replacement
Ok, so I got a new torque arm with the tranny mount bushing. I removed the old mount, now do I have to drill out the existing rivits? If I do, do I leave the piece of metal that the old bushing was mounted too off? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Re: Torque arm bushing replacement
When I did the ES torque arm mount (and this was about 15 years ago, I unbolted the clamshell front mount to open it up, without even removing the mount from the trans. Pushed the TA to one side to get it out of the mount. Then drill out the rivets so you can remove the 2 halves of the rubber bushing. Put the new 1-piece bushing over the end of the torque arm, push the bushing into the clamshell mount and close up the clamshell.
The only thing you discard is the two pieces of rubber.

So in the end the two metal pieces attached to the rubber remain? Can I just use small bolts to put the two metal pieces back to the bracket? Or doing need to rivits them again?

Re: Torque arm bushing replacement
The bushing has to be housed by the clamshell. Bolts can be used, if there is a need, but my install was like Injuneer's as I recall. It has been quite a while since I did mine, as well.

Re: Torque arm bushing replacement
If it's a 1-piece poly, you only need the inner and outer halves of the clamshell. The inner half is the flat piece attached to the tranny by bolts. The outer half is the piece that inserts into the bottom of the inner half, and pivots up to be held to the inner half by a single bolt.
Did they not include the instructions? They clearly show how to do it. If you don't have them, look at this:
