MOOG improved ball joints...?

Anyone know what they improved on the lower ball joints. I see two different part numbers listed for them...plain and improved.
TIA,
Doug

I used the Problem Solver if that helps.

I was trying to look that up for you and then got curious myself...I still can't find anything online so I'll have to call around. I have a set of new ball joints and couldn't extract any part numbers. I can't even find any MOOG related websites.

Looks to me like he was on Rock Auto's site. The first one (K6145) is discontinued, it says to use the other (K6145T).

The enhanced design uses a more effective lubrication system. I just installed a couple a few weeks ago and they are far superior to the factory pieces. I have always had good luck with Moog and would recommend you spend the extra few bucks.

Anyone have trouble installing the 6145T's in the lower arms? I've heard stories about them being slightly oversized to fit control arms that are worn out, which is not a problem with my LCA's.

Just curious, hate to end up having to pull the arms off the car to make the socket holes bigger.

Re: MOOG improved ball joints...?

I have some k6145t's I bought today for my 2001 Camaro. The diameter is .015" larger than the oem ball joints that came out, but the od is knurled. If it weren't knurled I'd feel kinda hopeless about getting them into the control arm, but because they are I'm trying. Using one of those press tools the parts stores rent out. We'll see how it goes.

Re: MOOG improved ball joints...?

So this all worked out pretty well. What I ended up doing was taking about a 1.5" diameter stone in a drill motor and grinding off the knurls. Grinding around the diameter, just until the knurl went away got me back to the diameter of the ball joints that came out. I didn't want to grind or hone the id of the control arm because that seemed like it would weaken it ever so slightly.
