Changing Tires Cause ABS Codes???

Installed 2002 Corvette wheels (17" front / 18" rear) onto my 96 Z28. Now after a few days the ABS light comes on.

The codes are C1232 & C1233, LF & RF circuit open / shorted.

Just installed new front hubs and this didn't fix the problem.
The original hubs were noisy, so replacements were necessary anyway.

I'm thinking that the ABS module is bad......

Any suggestions?

I have ASR also.

Thanks....

Re: Changing Tires Cause ABS Codes???

Weird... the 96 factory service manual still lists the two digit DTC codes, but DTC 32 and DTC 33 in the "ABS With Traction Control" section appear to correspond to the Pxxxx codes you posted.

Does the "ABS INOP" light stay on all the time, or is it intermittent? Is there any difference in dry and wet weather?

There is no common component (e.g. - connector) for the two front wheel sensors, until you get to the 24-pin connector at the ABS/TC module (EBTCM).

Unplug the 24-pin connector at the EBTCM, and check the resistance between the pins in the unplugged connector:

Left Front:
-Pins A5 (light blue) and B4 (yellow)

Right Front:
-Pins A4 (dark green) and B3 (tan)

For sensor temp range (41*F - 110*F) resistance should be in the range of 956 - 1,240 ohms.

This will confirm continuity of all the wiring and the sensors.

After that, is is necessary to check the grounds and the voltage, with key on. At that point I would recommend reference to the factory manual. I can send you a .pdf of the pages if you want. Or I can give you a link to a download source.

Re: Changing Tires Cause ABS Codes???

Fred,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have the manual and checked it all out.

Must have been a bad connection at the EBTCM...I uplugged every connector, cleaned and reconnected.....

No problems yet.

Re: Changing Tires Cause ABS Codes???

I noticed the 4-digit ABS codes when I was testing a 96 ABS unit a member sent me. The Tech2 showed 4 digits instead of 2, but they are just the same codes with a "12" added in front.

Somewhere in the back of my declining senior citizen mind, I thought I remembered you pointing that out....
