Question If Shelby is working with Ford again will the series 1 get Ford power?

will the series one get the final cobra treatment and have a ford engine in its fender walls?
would seam like its going to happen...or is it?
was wonderin now that Olds is out..why would he stick with GM if he does work with Ford on a new Shelby Mustang? Sams like the right thing to do and also t osell them along side the Shelby Mustangs..since there is no Olds dealers selling them...

That would make sense. The blown 4.6L would make for a nice replacement. That or what ever Ford/Shelby has planned for the rumored Shelby Mustang.

OT: but how old is Shelby? the guy was building and racing cars back when my old man was a little boy. He's got to be up there.

Do that! That would be great.

I know for fact that he is sitting on the steering committe for the GT(40) as an advisor. I also know that he has made known that he is not ruling out another Mustang, but he adamantly refuses to take on the production "off-line" as he did in the '60s.

As was eluded to in this thread earlier, Shelby really has his hands full right now with his Series 1, the "new" CSX-4000 Cobras, and especially the GT500E "Eleanor" cars (of which they are going to do 400 units plus 75 units of a 427ci-NO2 version called the "Super Snake" ). With his involvement in the GT(40) and now maybe the new Mustangs, the guy is a veritable whirlwind at the age of 80!

As for the replacement of the Olds engine in the Series 1, I wouldn't rule out one of the latest Mod-motors from the blue oval, or even the 427 V10 we've talked about. Remember, the 7.0L V10 is similar in overall size but actually weighs LESS than a 5.4 and has much higher Hp/Tq! Just the kind of specs you want for a "supercar".

If they don't switch to a Ford engine, I wonder if they are going to keep using the 4.0L Olds or switch to it's replacement the 4.4L GXP V8? They could also use the new 4.6L northstar that will be in the RWD Caddys.

Curious thing is, Shelby has been in bed with everybody now. Sure can't claim any loyalty. But Ford kind of inadvertantly "ran him off" years ago.

Everybody remembers the AC Cobras. There were also Daytona Coupes. Shelby had a huge hand in the original GT-40 program, even though he never manufactured the cars themselves. He got intimate with Bud Moore and fielded some Trans Am competition before leaving Ford due to relationship issues and Ford's decision to pull out of all racing events in the '70's.

Does anybody remember the 2.2 Charger Shelby's from the early '80's? There was the infamous Viper with Shelby's touch on it too. He then worked out this deal with GM to run Oldsmobile powerplants in his "new" Series 1 cars we have talked about. I mean, he has done them all.

It would appear to me that his relationship with Ford is very healthy at this point. And after Ford lost Bondurant's business last year to the Vette, they need another strong name in the race-oriented aftermarket to associate with. Shelby became legendary by using Ford power back in '63 and remained so until Ford killed themselves by dropping out of the power wars - then he left, simple as that. I think he would be likely to consolidate his suppliers and settle on Ford again, given the overall picture.

And let's be honest, who wants an AC Cobra with a hemi? or an Olds? That's just WroNg .

Carroll is also CEO of Advanced Engine Technologies... so maybe it'll get an OX2 powerplant?

my grandfather just talked to him a few days ago like i said. i asked him to relay these questions on today to which i got the reply i didnt want to hear....

my grandfather said that Caroll told him that hes feeling kinda sh*tty now. i mean hes what? 80?. had a heart transplant a couple kidney transplants and such. so things arent lookign great for the car nut himself... o well hopefully ill still be able to meet him, Phil Hill and a couple other guys my grandpa knows.

BTW the reason he knows all these people is because my grandpa used to be a race driver back in the 50's. in fact his brother won the 24 hours of Le Mans a few times. his brothers name is Maston Gregory while my grandpas name is Riddelle Gregory.

o and one last thing. lets not go around spreading Shelby's health problems please. i would like to keep that on this board alon so not many people will know about it. i just thinks its his personal business and unless he says otherwise its no one else's business at all. thanks guys.

Why do people jump on the Shelby Mustang returning.
The only reason for Carroll's return to Ford is to work on the GT program.Yeah maybe a sticker packaged Mustang "could" be but give me a break.Shut that rumor down no matter where you heard it from. The 427 engine will end up in a GT (-40) not a GT Mustang.

i wonder what coroll has drawn out, nothing that would ever end up being built, but i bet he has some nice sketches and ideas of alot of could-be cars, who knows, maybe back in the 60 he thought of some shelby-camaro plans but was never able to use them, somewhere in a vault

Neat post! Thanks for the effort.
And cool deal about your grandpa too!

You're actually a little late on the health issues. Carroll had his most serious health issues (including the transplant you mentioned) in the '80's. I've got TONS of Mustang Monthly and Mustang Times magazines that were doing interviews with him about his health and even "goals before death" from the late '80's. (sidenote - I despise those bloodsuckers who do things like that to run a cover page just to generate sales. I replied to the one via snail mail it bugged me so bad... give a guy a break for Pete's sake.) Anyhow, I've got oodles of that stuff I could dig out for you. A lot of it is on the web in his biographies and life-stories, done by he SAAC and regional chapters. Anyhow...

He also has a pretty successful food company that sells Chili and spicy sauces. He started a fantastic foundation for ill/disabled children. He values his family a great deal. He's really an overall "cool dude" that liked fast cars before most of us were an "itchin' Daddy's britches". I have the utmost respect for the guy.

And guess who, I don't think Shelby would settle for a "stripe kit" on a base car. Dude, THAT AINT HIS STYLE! The man's name is synonimous with racing and performance. Personally, I don't care what he offers, if it's a Mustang with his name on it, it's worth having.
Anybody expect Lingenfelter to do a hopped-up I4 Cavalier?!?! You get my drift. The best don't "settle", they set the benchmarks for others, and like Lingenfelter, Shelby IS one of the best.

Just some trivia. Anyone know which V8 Caroll Shelby wanted to put in the AC to create the Shelby Cobra?

None other than the smalblock Chevy. When GM showed him the door....he went to Ford.
