A new system from Flowmaster from Horsepower TV.

In hot parts this week, Chuck introduced a new american thunder system for our cars. He said close to this and I quote" This new american thunder system from flowmaster exhaust will give your 3.8 camaro or firebird that sound you have been looking for". I am guessing that little 8X8 inch box thingy after the cat and B4 the muffler would make the tone change. Im gonna check the flowmaster website to see if we can buy them seperately. That would be great if cuz of that box it did sound like a Z. Thats what we all have been waiting for.

I haven't heard much about the AT, doesn't it use the 80 series with resonator and larger pipes(2 1/2"?
I guess that's the system you're talking about, since I missed that episode.

EDIT: Is this the one he was talking about?? http://www.onestopexhaust.com/detail.cfm?menu_id=9541 it says it comes with the resonator. (well, #17358 does)

I called Flowmaster about these new cat back systems (great timing, huh. Camaro/Firebird is discontinued and NOW they come out with a decent cat back for V6's... )

Anyway, part numbers:

#17356 93-95 3.4L
#17357 95-?? 3.8L (don't have one, so I didn't ask about the years)

Can be yours to the tune of $390.
Price seems a bit steep to me, especially compared to the V8 catbacks. Oh well...

OK, somebody at Flowmaster is smoking crack.
JUST got off the phone with Summit, they are stocking the #17356 system and selling it at $256.95 + $5 additional shipping.

Better jump on this one...

i couldnt tell if that was the one that was on HP tv since there wasnt a pic. Im gonna do a search when I have time about if I can just get the resonator since I already have the whole system. Ill just need a shop to cut out some of the I pipe and throw on the resonator. If thats what we think it is.

I talked to a tech at Flowmaster named Craig and he said that sometimes exhausts sound raspy on a V6, but that's why they came out with the American Thunder system with the resonator. He said that gives it a deeper, bass tone instead of sounding like a weed eater.

I dont need the whole exhaust setup. I already have the flowmaster catback, I just need the resonator. You think there is a way to get just the resonator?

Isn't a resonator just a fancy name for a glass pack? I know it is in SCCA.. you could just go to napa and order a cherrybomb glasspack and weld it ahead of the muffler.. the "resonator" has inverted scoops inside the glasspack to catch more air and smooth it out before it hits the muffler and it absorbs the TINNY/RASPY sound...

I hope it doesn't sound like my Delta (which is a tamed, dampened 40 Original series), which doesn't sound like a weedeater, but can have a nasal, hollow motorcycle sound in the mid rpm range.

If it has the 80 series then I will probably go with it ( still haven't decided between AT or B&B, but I'm in no rush), for the 80's are more aggressive than the 40 D... Plus with a larger 2 1/2" pipe it should sound a little deeper plus lid and CAI.
