Well, I didn't read the article, because I am not registered to read it, but I assume the current Monte will be getting a power boost?

I am torn with my Monte SS... I miss my Z28's power, handling, T-Tops, ride stance, seating position, etc...

BUT... the Monte is seriously put together very very very well. Not a rattle , squeek... nothing! If Camaro were built like the Monte, it'd be best in class with no competition. It rides so smooth compared to the Z) over bad roads. It has great comfort features like heated seats, dual zone climate control, OnStar, Trip Computer, etc etc etc.... nice little touches.

Now, what I do not like about the Monte is the lack of power (which hopefully this 4.8 story addresses) the softer handling, and FWD (I hate Torwue Steer, I HATE it!)

Perhaps I'll be making a trade if this 4.8 thing is true... I guess I should register, but it's just a pain-in-the-butt to have to register and all that just to read a message board.

It isnt much to ask when you consider how much the site costs to run and it isn't littered with pop-ups

If true, this is interesting news.

Last I heard, 4T65-E transaxle couldn't handle the torque of a V8 and the beefier 4T80-E wouldn't fit the W-body without expensive surgery.

Also, the low end torque of a pushrod genIII smallblock seemed to completely overwhelm the traction capabilities of a FWD car.

Both of these issues would need to be addressed if the 4.8 were to be released in a W-body.

I know...the only thing that i am sure of is that somone sent me a tip saying they were tooling up to make a 4.8L car. Since the new Grand Prix engine is actually more powerful then the 4.8L one would assume that they already addressed these issues in the Pontiac. Another thing to think about is that they mentioned the Grand Prix would have a manually shiftable automatic. Maybe they have a new tranny no one knows about.

I've got the 4.8L in my '02 Tahoe and I just love the performance & the fuel economy. Of course its RWD, but I think it might weigh more than a Monte or Impala.

The 4.8 is a sweet motor. I sure hope all the engineering and traction problems can be resolved.

Dropping this motor into the Impala/Monte Carlo would elevate those cars from transportation appliances to real contenders.

With that power boost, it give both car a little more respect on the road. This would be a step forward for these cars away from the boring image they have. I like seeing it though as a V8 FWD as a stop gap measure only until the RWD replacement is ready. The future product line at Chevrolet is looking good: RWD Impala SS, RWD Monte Carlo, 5th gen Camaro?, and a snake charming camless C6.

Question

Just a thought. Cadillac currently has the most torque of any FWD car, and it handles torque steer through electronic traction control, otherwise it wouldn't be pretty when you mashed the peddle. If the current Monte Carlo torque steers with it's V6 now, what will it be like with the 4.8?

I am not selling email addresses and info...i don't even know how. There is no money in that crap anyway...liek banner ads. The problem I have with advertisers is though the site does alot of traffic they see 23 registered (after a month as of last Sunday) users in the forum and think that the site gets no traffic...all though yesterday alone it ran a 100,000 hits. Havinga bigger forum helps make advertisers think they are reaching a larger audiece. Considering all teh crap I go through to keep teh site free of pop ups and on a fast server...I don't see how registering for the forums is gonna put a big hurt on you.

I mean you don't wanna register it's your loss almost 700 people have in teh last three days and I am on pace to set new traffic records.

Sounds interesting, if only it were RWD...

Guess the impending GTO is my next possible GM purchase.
