For Fbodfather: Glitchy airbag triggers?
For Fbodfather: Glitchy airbag triggers?
Howdy! I know you're retired from GM, but I thought you might know who to pass this along to. Instead of a private message, I thought that if there were other Camaro owners unfortunate enough to have noticed this, that they might chime in.
Both side-curtain airbags deployed, after a straight-on collision and no tilting of the car.
Thursday, on the way home from Fort Hood, I hit a deer in my month-old black 2SS/RS. (Yes, Thursday was a very bad day, all 'round.) I hit it square on, a smidgen left of center on the front bumper, at 62 mph. It fell below the bumper, got dragged a little, and got up and ran off. The car was stopped, it went only straight ahead after hitting the animal, and was not tilted at all in any direction. The passenger seat was empty.
The appraiser was amazed that both side curtain bags deployed, and felt that neither should have. I wasn't injured or anything, it's kind of expensive for my insurance company, though. It seems to me that there may be a glitch in the processor code that governs what bags deploy in response to what stimulus. Please pass this along to the "airbag whiz," in whatever engineering department might be appropriate.
It's going to take a long, long time to get repair parts, too!
Best regards,
Peyton

First, I am sorry to hear that you had the incident and I am glad no one got hurt.
Second, I'll make sure Scott sees this.
Not to be rude, but got pics of the aftermath? I have to admit I am curious to see how things end up after a 2010 Camaro airbag deployment.

Howdy, Jason,
Here's the only picture I have. Forgot all my basic photography skills, and took a pic into the sun, early on the morning after hitting the deer. I need to get back by the body shop and get another shot. I'll be sure and get airbag ones.

I hit one in a Caprice at about 35 or 40 mph- pushed the left fender into the driver's door, and broke the window as the deer rolled down the side of the car- new headlight, fender, and door to get back into business- maybe $150 in salvage parts- and no air bag deployment-
