Why do....
Subaru WRX's STI's etc. sound like a constant missfire? It's even more obvious with an aftermarket exhaust, those cars sound like ass, i mean all 4cyl sound like ass but these especially.

Actually, I think they sound pretty good; closer to an American V8 then almost every other import out there.

I think they're the best sounding 4 bangers out there too, and I can't stand the way most engines other than V8's sound.

Huh? The STi is one of the best 4cyl motors I've ever heard. The noise comes from the horizontally opposed 4 cylinder and unequal length exhaust manifold.

Note to self: Stay away from boxer engines.

If you want to hear something confusing, look up a cammed 4cyl boxer. It sounds like the engine is trying to make every sound an engine could conceivably make.
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/W...80s_690731.htm
Although that one sounds fairly close to what my car would sound like cammed, the one good thing about 4cyl boxers is that they have to lope.

This.
Throw on an equal length manifold or header and the distinct sound pretty much goes away.
