Question "Mod Friendly" Chevy Dealership near Grand Rapids?

I don't think my local dealership will be very friendly towards my mods. I am having some issues (un-related) to my mods and need it looked at under warranty.

My alternator is going bad, and my brake booster is leaking. When I went to my local Chevy dealer to get a tire plugged they said that even changing the exhaust will void my warranty (??). I don't think they would like seeing a Nitrous System hooked up.

I live in Greenville (North of Grand Rapids), but I would like to go someone where they are understanding that just because you modding one thing, doesn't mean you void everything (Yes, I know you gotta pay to play, but I'm not trying to get an engine replaced to due Nitrous - big difference).

I *may* do that - it just sucks it's a long *** drive. I'm off a few days for Thanksgiving. Maybe we can work something out?

My current issues:

Issue 1: All of my lights flash in sync. RPM does not matter, nor being under WOT. It happens about once a second. My headlights, dome, tails, dash, you name it - if it has a bulb, it flashes. It seems to be an issue with the TailBlazers, but mine is very bad. I bought a TBSS grounding kit to help (JeTTT Auto Big Three Grounding Kit), but it didn't help (Frame, Engine Block and Alternator ground).

I took the Alt to Advanced Auto, and they tested it, but said it seemed fine. However, there is a clutch in the Alt that may be the issue, and they cannot test that (it allows it to spin freely when not in use).

** Links to other owners with "blinking issues" (it may be the Ignition Switch as they cause lots of havoc when they fail - and is VERY common):

Issue 2: When I was taking my Alt off, I noticed my break booster seemed to be leaking a bit, so that needs to be looked at as well.

Issue 3: When in park, and press the brake to release it so I can shift, the shifter makes a loud "clicking" noise. Not a big deal at all, but I want to make sure something's not "breaking". So since it's getting looked at for other things, mine as well check this out as well.

Isssue 4: Every once in a while, I get a weird click sound from under the dash, beneath the steering wheel and your knees.

hmm, never seen the blinking light problem yet? could be a ground issue to a module? prolly not the alternator if your voltage is in good range. but thats easy to see with an amp meter. Ive done tons of those ign. switch's, but never seen the sw. cause anything like that. I got one in my toolbox we can throw in to see though. only takes a few min.s.

brake booster no problem.

the noise is prolly just the park lock. its a solenoid thta releases when you put your foot on the brake pedal/switch. and in most cars is loud enough to hear. easy enough to check.

issue 4 we'd have to check.

Good Luck!

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you -- that dealership is wrong, and all you have to do is mention that Act in the same sentence as the word "lawyer" and they'll shut up and help you.

Having said that, I think it's a pretty safe guess that Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids is about as mod-friendly as dealerships get.

Having said that, what the hell are you doing taking your car to a stealership for service?

I've had Chris work on my Camaro. I know he knows what he's doing.

The only problem I can see is that I have LS1 electric fans. They could say the aftermarket fans are causing the blinking, and void the electrical system.

I posted this on another forum (MichiganSpeed.com), and a member did have this to say about the Nitrous:

I will say that bringing a car with nitrous into any dealer could be possible cause to void the complete warranty as vehicles used in speed competitions have no warranty. The only reason for nitrous is speed competitions.
As for bringing the car to a dealer - I have an aftermarket warranty. I'd rather try and use that, then pay out of pocket. It came with the TBSS. Since I only have to pay $75 to get anything fixed - it's cheaper than say buying a $300 alternator. Make sense to me....

If I can't meet up with Chris, I may try Burger (as they were also suggested on another forum).

ouch. can someone help me with the sharp object slammed into my back?

I have helped way too many people on here, and regular customers walking in the doors of my dealership(S) to let anyone say that w/o making you show me proof to back up any reasoning to make a comment like that? noone can ever say all dealership techs are good or bad, but I can garauntee you that Ive never known or worked w/any dishonest dealership techs.

is it because dealerships typically charge a few dollars more per hour rate then repair shops? to that I can say I also garauntee that we have alot more money wraped up into overhead (including specific shop tools)then the repair shops.

I took at him asking me why I wasn't fixing it my self vs. paying someone else to do it. I could be wrong, but that's how I took it....

milo, unplug the fans, see if the lights still surge like they do. I cant see how that is causing an issue. did you pull the power right off the battery or a battery positive post at the distribution block? run through a relay Im assuming right?

if you do decide to bring it out to me, send me your vin code, and a phone # for the aftermarket warranty. we'll have to call in to make sure those repairs are covered under your warranty before we even get started. then we'll order the master cylinder too to have it here.

if we have to do any of it at a charge to you, I can get you a great discount too.

I take offense to the word "stelership" in any situation or use of the word. cause I know they are talking about me and my fellow dealership tech's.

I did have one of my fan relays go bad (the fan would stay on when the truck was powered off). That didn't make a difference. I can try and unhook both of them, and see if it still does it - but it won't be until this weekend since it gets dark before I get home (and I don't have a usable garage for working in).

I'll get the Warranty Info for you, and send it via PM tonight or tomorrow.

It had to be at least 6+ years. My dad maaaaaay want to buy it back. I know he may need a car, so if you're thinking cheap, let me know.
