slight clunking noise in tranny / drive line
Hey guys, I've been experiencing a clunking noise when I disengage the clutch and get the car rolling in first, and second gear ( kind of sounds like a worn "U" joint ). I brought it to my dealer, and was told that this is normal for these types of drive lines ( I'm not so sure ). Has anyone else experienced this, or is your car smooth, and clunk free ?

if you have windows open you will hear it....these are big beefy transmissions that are built to handle massive torque and when you shift at slow speeds or release the clutch you may hear some sounds. I would not worry a bit. Transmission is one of the strongest components on this car.

Thanks for the reply.... I posted on several sites, and everyone seems to be on the same page. I'm going to get my exhaust modified tomorrow, so I hope it will mask it for me.... One guy also mentioned that this car now has several more "U" joints, so there's bound to be some slack in the drive line !?

I dont really buy in to that, it's a dead stock production car not a proshifted race car with a spool. My Sierra had a slight clunk in the driveline and it's only gotten worse with miles, I'll be taking it in for warranty. Your dealer just most likley hasn't seen to many yet for this so their being lazy.

If it gets any worse, I'll definitely be going in for a repair... It seems there are a few people noticing this, so I'm not alone .

My car also makes a slight clanking noise like you are experiencing. I was wondering WTF is this? At first I thought because my car had 24 miles on it when I took deliverly that someone drove it too hard! My dealer told me that sometimes they pick cars at random for testing purposes and this was probably the reason for the 24 miles. I'm taking it in for sertvice and will let you know what I find out!

Look for a TSB on it, if other people have the exact same problem, it isn't a problem with your car only. With a car this new, any issues you run in to, other cars will most likley have issues with it too.

Asked the dealer about this noise. They just printed a GM document that says "it's normal" GM says if they handed me a paper on it, it's been decided by GM it's normal and they won't address the issue.
As long as it doesn't get worse, I'll just turn up the tunes.

slight clunking noise in tranny
Hey Guys
I have had a few words with my dealer and his so called ace mechanical supervisor about this noises coming from the tranny back late last year. I made them lift me up in my camaro so that I can make this noise and they can track it down, it is coming from inside the tranny. I had them contact the factory engineering group to get an answer to this issue. their response was: it is not a performance issue so there is nothing they will do about it. the noise is not enough to warrant a Recall on it. So we are stuck with this irritating noises until all of us make enough noise back at them so they will do some thing about it. As far as I am concerned this "Reborn All American Muscle car" should not have been designed/engineered with a clunking noises in the tranny. I am some time embarrass to give my friends a ride because of this noise. The first thing they say is" what is that NOISE?" And what am I suppose to say???? I absolutely Love Camaros and I love My New 2010 Camaro!!!

I hear it all the time when I push in clutch on a bit of a hil or shifting close to a wall where you get reverberation....turn up the radio...close the windows and deal with it...these are strong trannies and it does not concern me.
bought a big warranty just in case....
