Plan my mods!!!!

As soon as I get my new SS, I'm gonna bolt on a few simple mods to make it more fun.I really want to keep the car under warranty!!!Let me know what you guys think of this plan.

1) catback/ axleback exhaust: I don't want anything obnoxiously loud. Just a nice rowdy tone with a couple extra HP. I'm thinking about the GMPP catback. It's kinda expensive, but I'm sure the warranty covers it, and it's probably not loud like the SLP loudmouth. I'll also consider others, but nothing silly like a $1500 borla.

2) Cold air intake: I like the Texas-speed kit, and it's considerably cheaper than the GMPP kit. Furthermore, I can quickly swap it out for the stock unit if I need warranty work done.

3)Nitrous outlet brand 150wet shot kit. This will be tricky, but I want to rig it up so I can quick-disconnect it in case I have to go to the shop for warranty work. I'm thinking I'll bolt the nitrous kit to the cold air intake, so I can remove them all in one quick job.

Later in life, I'll install some headers of some kind, but not now.

you want to retain the warranty and your going to put NOS on it? good luck explaining to gm how that still is under warranty.

Here you are spreaded your crap again. Malice, you MUST get the borla and spend $1500 on a catback - anything else would be tacky.

I've heard several exhaust so far - all of them are too quiet. I know you don't want open pipes track car sound - but the hushpowers, the tsp exhaust, all are rather quiet. I find them to be raspy and hollow too -

The n20 kit shouldn't be too hard to pull off. I've removed several of them in less than an hour. The trick will be not doing any noticable permanent damage. I'm sure you could mount the bottle somewhere that even if you did put a bolt hole you wouldn't draw attention - hole under the carpet in the trunk probably isn't going to set off any alarms.

The trick will be wiring it - putting just a push button on a car would be pretty dumb. We really need a tach and tps wire. Find somewhere that you can tap these but still tape back up so they aren't noticable.

I've always been a big fan of the bottle. I only got away from it when the prices got so high to fill one.

spreading my crap? i said nothing about exhaust. he wants to retain a factory warranty and nitrous is definately not the way to keep the stock warranty. you have better odds sneaking by the warranty with a light cam.

your still bitter about the exhaust discussion arent you?

try to stay in the lines of the thread please. if you wantto discuss the exhaust thing....take it to that thread or PM me.

I agree. NOS no matter how discreet you are with it,if it's installed you can't conceal it. If for any reason you have a powertrain failure kiss the warranty goodbye. And if I'm not mistaken, there are cam upgrades that will not void your warranty? More then likely you would realize no more then 30-50HP there, but with all the bolt on's you should bank 100+? headers, exhaust,CAI,tune and pulley's.

gm performance parts will not void the warranty but they only have a 1 yr on the parts. some get 3 depending on items.

Honestly, I want a quieter exhaust. I like good tone, but I had a 4th gen with an SLP Loudmouth, and it was too damn much. I have signifigant hearing loss in my right ear from the loudmouth resonance in the cabin.

I'm kinda considering the noweeds cutout kit. It's factory quiet, but when I want a nice raspy tone, I got it at the push of a button.

As for the nitrous.....

I want to install the kit in a way that I can remove it quickly and easily with no evidence if I need warranty work done. I'm not trying to make a super concealed kit, I want a super modular kit that I can remove easily.

its kinda hard to hide the injectors for the nos. whether they be dry and be in the intake or wet and they are in the manifold. they are going to be noticed. and if you take the injectors out of the manifold, you will have open holes there. easily spotted by a tech. its not worth it. if you going to void the warranty, you might as well VOID the warranty. do it big.
im thinking of taking my car to Livernoise motorsports in deearborn,MI and getting some head cam work done. then take a trip to lingenfelter for the magnuson s/c kit. its gonna be one bad ride.

I would leave out the nitrous for a while. Why not start with bolt ons and work you way up.

I'm doing intake/exhaust right away.

I know nitrous seems a bit ambitious right now, but I need to get back in the game. I've been farting around with 13 second cars for 3 years now. I've talked such a big game with this car, all my buddies are gonna expect it to perform. There is a douche where I work with a 96 RT10 viper. I wanna whoop his ass.

I think that if I'm careful, I can rig up the nitrous kit in such a manner that it will be able to be removed in under 1 hour with almost no evidence that it was ever on the car.

Aside from 1 or 2 wire that are slightly stripped, I think I can pull it off.

adding nitrous to any car makes it fast. why not do a head cam package or a supercharger? or even just a few bolt ons and change the gearing? not alot of mods will be needed to get this car to run low 12's. intake, exhaust, headers, gears, tires, short throw shifter, maybe throttlebody, MAFS and a tune. i can see this car running high 11.

1) yes. That is why I like it. It's cheap and it works.

2)heads/cam or blower all will adversely affect the daily driveability of the car, and the gas mileage, and they will surely void the warranty. I don't want any of those things. I'll do H/C when the car has 50k miles or more, but not right away. I'm gonna be DDing this car for a few years.

3)After reading about it in GMHTP, the tranny and rearend are already setup to handle 600+hp. I don't wanna crack into that rearend to change the gears, when it already has good gears and it built to handle abuse. 3.45 is a good mix that can deliver performance, and not kill fuel mileage. As for the rest of the bolt on mods you mentioned, I'd like to do those, except the throttle body and MAF. A drive by wire TB is gonna be a million dollars, and the aftermarket MAFs has pretty much been proven as a joke.

We hope. The 1.5 day's thread in here exposed a little problem. The dealer said it was a stripped axle. I would feel better if someone actually saw the axle to verify that diagnosis. I hope this was an isolated incident. I for one will not walk the NOS road. All bolt on's first. Then we go cammin.

I agree. I hope to hell that the axle stripping was a friday night assembly job, and not a design flaw.

If those axles are terribly weak, I fear for the cost of aftermarket upgrades!

I never sprayed nitrous in first gear anyways. I'm not very good at launching with a manual transmission, so I always just sprayed in 2nd gear. I lost some ET, but I played it safe and had good longevity on all my parts.
