Audio System

I know it says a 9 speaker premium sound system for the new camaro, but what exactly does that include? also can it come stock with a more exclusive sub system that is mentioned in the gmpp 2009 catalog? there it looks like you can have 2 mtx subs in already or are those actually stock for the 9 speaker system?

any info would be great

thanks

I believe the MTX are the optional subs through the dealer. I know that there are speakers on the A pillars, the doors, and I think the back deck standard. There's a center channel on the dash for the 9 speaker. The other two could be in the rear pillar or might even be the subs included instead of an option. That would be nice.

From what we are hearing, the Boston Acoustics system is actually a very nice sounding system. Can't wait to hear it for myself in person.

Granted that everyone's quality levels are different, I heard it when we did our road test and it was a hell of a lot better than the Monsoon or Bose systems in the past. It isn't some audiophile-quality system but it is definitely on par with some of the higher end factory audio systems out there, IMO. I think I listened using the base settings so tweaking it a bit might make it better.

If it is not good enough for me at that point, I will consider adding the GMPP sub or equivalent, or a sound processor. From my blog entry "What I don't like about the 2010 Camaro - One Disciple's point of view." here:

Integrated Audio System - I sure planned to customize my sound system. New head unit, amps, speakers, etc. Boy, there is no freakin' way that will happen since the factory radio is basically integrated into the entire car. Actually, this one isn't too big a problem, since the Boston Acoustics 9-speaker system is an interesting option and might be okay. Also, there are some decent choices in factory signal processor units out there that may fill the gap.

Here's a link with info...

Add in the fact that iPod integration, USB, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm jack is expected to be available and it might work out just fine.

I sat in an SS with the Boston Acoustics system and it sounded awesome. Granted it was at a car show and we couldn't pump it, but it was very pure and clear.

Center channel? Or is it:

2 in the a-pillars (tweeters)
4 in the front doors (woofers and mids)
2 on the package shelf (woofers)
and 1 sub?

Seems like the more likely setup...But honestly I don't know since I haven't seen the spec. This is the way it's set up in my GTI (minus the sub, that came in a premium package).

In my opinion there's no way their putting a subwoofer. I read somewhere that you can buy a subwoofer as a option.

My experience with onstar you have only the choice gm has included. You can't add amps or subs. If you do the power math, and it's distributed evenly,18 watts per channel isn't exaclty the kind of power I need. That said I am a LARGE sound junky. With headers and cold air I don't think the system is going to do the job for me. BTW; in the premium set up there will be a sub. Must be a trunk mount like the mustang?
