Pricing for my Canadian friends now available

Considering a base model Corvette in Canada is $65,205 MSRP and a base V8 G8 GT is $37,450 MSRP... I guess I can stomach the 41k price tag for my 2SS compared to $34k for one in the states... Puts it on par with how much I was going to spend on a Silverado LTZ before the Camaro made its triumphant return.

Oh I still plan on buying one, but I'll need to delay it for a little while longer so I can have more of a substantial down-payment.

So, here are the differences in percent...

LS = 21%
1LT = 17%
2LT = 19%
1SS = 22%
2SS = 23%

I have to say I'm extremely disappointed in these prices..... Just another way G.M. sticks it to us loyal Canadian customers.

So I was right, there will not be price parity.

I am calling for all Canadians to boycott the Camaro and GM.

Why should we get screwed? WHY? Can anyone please give me a rational, logical argument why I have to pay more than an American for a car being built down the road from me?

I say again...boycott!!!!!!!

Well, for the time being at least, the value of the Canadian dollar is low enough so that these prices are almost the same as the US prices.

Yeah, the only problem is when it comes time to give the dealer his check, the Canadian dollar will be between $0.90 - $0.95.

Our dollar is artificially low now because everyone is flocking to purchase the U.S. greenback during this market crisis.

Our dollar is worth 81 cents on the US dollar. 34,000 times 19 percent (100-81=19) is 40,460. It's on par with our dollar right now. I'm sure that there may be adjustments down the road...

I have a question, you know I think the response is somewhat I had expected to be, but Toronto and Detroit is probably like 5 hour distance, is it possible that people from Canada can come down to Detroit, purchase their car, and head back up into Canada. Or is that illegal ?

It's not illegal at all, but with current pricing, at the current value of the Canadian dollar, you will spend more money importing from the US than you would just buying it in Canada.

I'm a little disappointed as well. If the price had included shipping I would have been very happy.

However , you have to consider the value of our dollar right now. To put the price in perspective; when you compare the 1ss, for example, to the base price of a Camaro Z28 in 2002, or the price of a Impala SS right now (within $600),it is reasonable.

I suppose it's all a matter of how you look at the pricing. The glass can be either 1/2 full or 1/2 empty, depending on if you compare the Canadian pricing to the U.S. pricing, or whether the comparison is made as to how the Challenger is priced in Canada... and I do know that GM Canada looked very closely at this.

Canadian pricing as follows with U.S. pricing in parenthesis. I haven't seen any option prices yet... and it looks like a $1400 destination fee has to be added as well to the Canadian prices, whereas the U.S. price includes a $750 destination charge.

LS 26,995 ($22.995)

1LT $27,995 ($24,630)

2LT $31,595 ($27,330)

1SS $36,995 ($30,995)

2SS $40,995 ($34,180)

With Canadian and American pricing noted above, here's the Canadian pricing on the Challenger (also have to add a $1300 destination charge - although the car is built in Brampton, Ontario)

SE $24,995 with 4 spd. auto & 250 HP V6)

SXT (Canadian only model) $26,995 (not sure with 4 or 5-speed auto & 250 HP V6)

R/T $34,995 (370 HP V8)

SRT/8 $45,995 (425 HP V8)

I think if the comparison is made to the Challenger, the Camaro comes off looking a little better, given the higher content of a 300 HP base engine that gets better gas mileage, plus a 6-speed tranny, among other items. Looking at the V6 cars, I'd rather pay the premium for the Camaro, considering the equipment level, even if the 4 or 5 speed auto is included in the V6 Challenger pricing (I don't believe a manual tranny is available on the V6 Challenger).

If you compare performance, fuel economy and level of equipment between the SS and the SRT/8, it would seem that the SS is a much better value, especially if you accept the performance being approx. the same.

As well, the 6-speed manual is a (roughly) $2000 option on the V8 Chally here in Canada, while it is standard equipment on the SS. Sure, the 6-speed tapshift auto is an extra-cost option on the Camaro (we don't know yet how much it will cost in Canada), but the standard slushbox on the Challenger is the archaic 5-speed "Autostick" that has been around for approx 10+ years.

That being said, it would have been even more attractive to Canadian buyers if the price differential could have been kept closer to the approx. 15% difference that appears between the pricing of the CTS-V in Canada ($68,500) and the price in the U.S. ($59.995).
