Navigation unit available December 2009
Found this news at the link below. I don't really need a built-in nav unit. I would rather have a portable hand-held unit. The big question for me is whether or not the center console will be redesigned before the first year of production is finished. I was planning on buying my Camaro the third quarter of 2009, but I might wait a few months if the dash or center console will look significantly different. Any solid info would be appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like I'll have to wait until Fall or later at any rate. From talking to local dealers, I don't see any way of avoiding mark-ups for a while and I refuse to pay them. I hope I'm wrong.
At any rate....if that's what happens, at least I'll have more downpayment and hopefully HUD.

That's interesting. I wonder how that will change the appearance of the interior, and if it will be for better or worse.

Hmm, this makes some sense to me. The one thing I wondered when I first saw the stereo display was, if they have so much room, why is the display so small? (and surrounded by the blacked out plastic trim) The area is like 12 x 6 but the actual screen size is 8 x 4 (just guessing here, but you get the point). Perhaps they are going to make full use of the real estate they left themselves for a full size screen for nav.

I was kinda waiting for the HUD, so this just gives me more reason to wait.

GM is going to be wondering why all these people are waiting to buy cars...
My dad had a my2007 CRV (It might be 2006 and 2007, I'm bad with import years), in my2008 they added the backup cameras, navigation etc. So he traded in his 1 yr old car, to get the new one and lost a ton of money. I won't be making that same mistake.

My rough photoshop of the area of the radio display a little bigger and better utilized like Bart is saying:

That is something to get me to consider waiting... my '02 Z still has plenty of good miles left in it. I wonder if NAV/HUD will be available to order in December, or actually on the lots.

I'm already waiting until the beginning of 2011 to buy mine but if I was planning on buying one the first year I think I would hold out for the 2nd year for nav and HUD. Why wait to put these things in until the 2nd year? They've had plenty of time to get them ready for the first year.

It would look ugly. OnStar is a better way, and even though you have to pay for it, it is easier to operate.

I have a nav in all of my cars but guess what? My favorite is the Garmin Nuvi I bought at Costco. The software is easy and cheap to update and work with and it will be all that I use in the future. Besides with between Onstar, the Garmin and my Iphone it will be impossible to get lost.
