Camaro Goes Hybrid

This sounds like a lot of speculation to me.
Could someone lay this one to rest(especially the higher price for v8s thing)

Turbo V6 Camaro would be awesome too.

I think a hybrid Camaro would be good PR for GM

GM chairman Richard Wagoner has already confirmed a V-6 engine will be part of the Camaro package.

While the concept Camaro has come with V-8 engine, a V-6 would serve as basic engine for the production Camaro and would help keep prices competitive.

Meanwhile, Tom Stephens, the head of GM’s Powertrain Group, told reporters recently that turbocharging can help boost both fuel economy and horsepower.

The V-8 version of the Camaro is very likely carry a substantial premium and GM is thought to have assigned a team of engineers to work out how to apply its new dual-mode hybrid system for an even more expensive version of the Camaro.–By Joseph Szczesny
Looks like my Camaro might have to be a DI V6

I don't care whether or not there is a hybrid, but this part "The V-8 version of the Camaro is very likely carry a substantial premium" I hope that part is only speculation by the writer.

Serious performance variants of the Camaro have always been pricey. I won't be surprised if a V8 Camaro costs quite a bit more than the comparable 4gen. For one thing, it will have been 8 years since the last Camaro Z28 was new at a dealer and prices of new cars go up yearly just due to inflation. An example: I went to edmunds.com and priced out a loaded Mustang GT Premium coupe, with nav, Shaker stereo, chromeys and some other goodies... sticker is $38,500

If I was buying a Camaro I would seriously consider the hybrid. Or at the very least try retrofitiing the hybrid engine/trans/PCM into my 4th gen.

Eh, there are other ways to get good gas mileage. For instance, me and a friend are trying to figure out if we can get a 6L80E to work in an 02 Suburban.

I've just never liked the idea of hybrids.

That article isn't holding any merit at all with me....Like the fish and peanut butter remark - it stinks of something, I just can't put my finger on it........

I'll be honest. If they offer a turbo V6 version of the Camaro, then I'll be MUCH more apt to purchase one over a V8 (ANY V8). My first "new" car was a Grand National, and even though it wasn't as ultimately fast as my current Fbod, it was a much more satisfying feeling in the go pedal. It, my GN, is THE reason I'm building a twin turbo setup now for my 95.

I think a turbo v6 would go a LOOONG way to getting more people on board at the dealership...

i dont know much about engines but i heard awhile back that the camaro was going to have that cutoff where it shuts down two cylinders when youre cruising (for gas mileage) and when you get back on it you get the other two. So technically it acts like a v6 until you want the v8 power!

Ok now this story has spread all over the web:

Camaro Enters the 21st Century - With a Hybrid?

Chevrolet to offer hybrid Camaro?

V8 Camaro To Be Priced Higher Than Expected?

Who is this Joseph Szczesny anyway and how does he know anything that no one else knows?
