Lightbulb CC503 or HotCam ?? Daily Driver !!

So I have seen many threads about what cam is better, the 503 or the hotcam, and it seems like the 503 is better on power and driveability. So should I just go with the 503 over the hotcam or what ?? Will the 503 be too much for the stock heads and how will it idle compared to the HotCam ?? Thanks

As I have read, searched the 503 is about as big as you will want to go on stock heads. If you get the HC kit it will have all you will need if the idle is all you want.Check on youtube and other palces for idle diff.

Idle with the 503 sounds much better.... It is designed for stock heads and runs like a champ. 503 all the way if you get a good tune. Neither if you don't get it tuned.

either of the two will need a tune no matter what to get your moneys worth out of the swap. i have the hotcam and on stock tune it idled at 650 or so and it sounded nasty i loved it but it wanted to stall coming to stops. hotcam is a great i love it for what it is. the cc503 is a bigger cam so its going to idle alot more lumpier and gain a bit more power over the hotcam. reason why i went with the hotcam is due to emissions and the hotcam has a hard enough time trying to pass and the 503 is bigger so i wasnt going to bother with the problems that are going to arise down the road.

my 503 is fine for everyday driving, although traffic is not fun as my car likes to slingshot off the line into the rear bumper ahead of me because of the torque.

the hotcam is for whimps, the 503 is for slightly less whimpy men, so get the 503

They will both make good DD cams. The CC503 will make the most power though, it gets my vote.

I don't see how the 503 can be better in terms of drivability. The hot cam
will drive better in terms of "daily driving". Has a nice lope too.

People have passed smog tests with the 503, so dont let that be a deterrent

Yeah, I would say a tune is very critical in that aspect. I have heard of some people failing emissions with just the Hotcam until they had a PCM tune done.

you ll be killing yourself a month after if you go with the hotcam.
The only thing the hotcam is nearly exact stock driveability. So if thats what you want the go for it, otherwise 503 all day.

I ran the Hotcam for over a year on the stock tune. My idle never went below 800.

I never had to do emissions w/ the Hotcam on the stock tuning so I can't say if it would pass or not, but after it was tuned I went and did emissions. I compared previous emissions test data on my car, and the hotcam on a mail-order tune ran cleaner than the stock cam on stock tuning. In some areas it had less than HALF of the emissions as stock.
