strong N/A set up

i cant decide to go supercharged or not... dollar for dollar is it worth it? id like something in the 450 hp range... what would it take on a natural setup to get this kind of power? right now i have hooker comp headers no cat and a full exh not sure what kind never looked haha, cold air kit 160 thermo and a chip. and dont get my wrong its nice but i need more, car has 160,000 miles and im sure its due for a rebuild. i just want something that would stomp on all my buddies little imports that are turbo 4's running like 12 in the quarter..right now on my set up iver run 9.2 in the eighth, never had it on the quarter, is that about right for my set up? im sure its pretty tired....

I wouldn't do a power adder application unless the engine was built for it. If you do that you're looking at several thousand more than if you were to stay N/A.
Go for a heads/cam setup by a reputable place. Depending on your emissions requirements or if you know someone will depend on power levels. Your 450 figure flywheel or rear wheels? If it's whp then that's quite a lot to ask for out of a stock bottom end N/A. You could hit that with a blower or N20, but the question remains how long it would last.

450whp N/A you are starting to get into solid roller territory. I hope to Christ this doesn't turn into, "yeah I made 450rwhp and ran mid 12's @ 110mph!"
Cheapest way to go about that is build a hyd. cam/ported heads/intake 350 with stock crank/rods/rod bolts/forged pistons and a sprinkle of N20 on top. Do your research. Lots and lots of info on this board about reaching hp goals.

AI has a couple 383's with 430-445rwhp with their 190cc heads and a mild 230/236 cam so 450rwhp should be possible with the 200's and the right combination of boltons. And their stuff seems to back up the dyno #'s on the track,

Perhaps, but I'm a pessimistic mother****er so it's hard for me to believe unless I see it for myself and know the race weight.
Love the sig.

If you are looking for 450rwHP, what does your drivetrain look like - manual or auto? Can't tell you what it takes to produce rwHP unless you tell us what the power has to pass through to get to the rear wheels.

463 rwhp here, DITTO on the not cheap part!

Of course both of our setups would do 500+rwhp through a six speed and a 12 bolt. 4L60E and a 9 inch suck up power.

ive got a 6 speed stock and a stock rear end. could i get to about 450 to the wheels if i got a good port job on the heads and intake and went with a good cam and bigger injectors and a good tune? or should i look into new heads? is 450 doable with a good port job? i know it would be alot easier to do this with a 383 haha but i can decide on a kit, who makes a good 383 rotating assy for an lt1? will just any 1 piece rear seal kit work on this motor since its really just a normal small block under the heads?

Instead of being stuck on a horsepower number. What would you like to run in the 1/4?. Depending on your setup, it may not not require as much power as you thought. Alot of it depends on your suspension and if your wanting to stay m6 your going to need alot of it. Suspension tuning is where your going to spend alot of time at. You have some people making 500 at the wheel but cant get it to cut a good enough 60' to get into the 10's. Sure they may trap pretty well but they have a hard time getting that magical number.

mid to high 11's is fine with me, just looked at ai's site and i think i might go with the 185 heads and the cheaper intake porting job at 175,, what cam does that package come with tho? going to be rebuilding the stock bottom with forged pistons stock rods and crank.. heads and cam come at 1795 and with the intake i can get a whole top end at about 2,000 which i can deal with... how well would this set up run?

This is what Im talking about, you dont need 450@the wheels to net high to mid 11's. A good head/cam with some tuning will get you there. Ai is a good choice. There are others out there but that would turn into a pissing match. Good luck with the build.

Like he said.... you don't need that much power. My car went 12.11 @ 116 with a crappy 60' with only 364rwhp, through an auto.
