So I'm taking out my starter to get it tested because I'm having problems with it. I unbolt it, disconnect the wires, and the y-pipe is in the way. Is there ANYWAY to get the starter out without taking the y-pipe off?
Please god tell me there is...

I have a 6spd, it's a little different.
I finally got it out, cleaned it up because it was nasty, then took it to Autozone. Guess what, it passed. I watched it passed, three times. I get it home, put it back in thinking maybe some dirt got in the way...still doesn't work.
Same ****ing thing happens.
I cleaned all of the connections, there's no other wires down there. I don't know what's wrong with this retarded car.

97 LT1 with a 6 speed? You just described my drivetrain exactly. I didn't have to move anything out of the way to get my starter out. I disconnected the battery cable and pulled the two wires of the solenoid. To get to those, I used a socket with a mega extension and got it through the K-member past the engine mount. Then I just undid the two long *** bolts holding it to the block and out she came.
