Search phrase in quotation marks for exact matches only?

I understand the reason for not allowing 2 character search terms; it makes the search too slow due to all of the possible combinations that need to be checked. However, allowing the use of quoted search phrases would seem to resolve this.

For example, searching Camaro SS brings up anything with Camaro in it. But so does "Camaro SS".

Would it be possible to allow exact match searches like this? Like almost all web search engines allow. Then the phrase "Camaro SS" would be a 9 character search term instead, seemingly avoiding the 2 character search problem. This would provide a significant improvement in site functionality!

Things like finding a "coil pn" would also then be searchable, avoiding a lot of the reposts we see with common questions.

On a similar topic, boolean searching like "coil pn" or "coil p/n" would be better yet.

I'd like to see this implemented as well. I've tried to do the quotations search here for an exact phrase and the quotes have no effect. I think the search function would be greatly improved with that feature.

Agreed...my search for 227 turned back nothing. I'll assume because it's too short. However when I searh for "Crane 227" I get a billion returns, because of the key word Crane.

I've always had an issue with this as well, but I was always just too lazy to make a thread about it.

First off, thanks for an incredible site! I've saved countless hours and dollars by searching these pages!

So here is my bump for search upgrade. When I search for titles only, it USED to only pull up threads with titles that had my all my search words in it. Now it seems to act like it is searching the thread.

For example, I just searched LT1 forum under advanced search, search title only, for the phrase lightweight battery. I was returned 10 pages with titles including battery, but not with both words. If the match is not there, then I don't want to see all the other possiblities. Because if i don't find what I want, I will just take a word out of the search.

I'm pretty sure it used to work like that for me. So did something change? And yes, I agree with the quote marks comments.

Thanks
