Fuel gauge jumps around

I did a search and did not find anything specific to my problem. I was driving the car today and noticed that the needle in the gauge was jumping around quite a bit. I know that the sending unit is a float design but the needle was moving too much. Do you guys think the sending unit is going bad? The car only has 56k on it. If I need to replace it, can I get one with a walbro 255lph pump already in it? thanks for any help you all can send.

The sending unit and the pump are separate parts that mount next to each other in the tank. Your problem may be a wire issue; Shoebox has a troubleshooting procedure here: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#fuel_gauge
