Is it possible the vent hose from the canister to the engine had been removed from the canister and pushed back up over the fuel tank?

This is a 97, and there's no "extra" line:

But.... look at the "upper" metal line, which you didn't uncover.... could that possibly be the hose that connects there, and its fallen off?

I was doing this eariler on today, from left to right;

the 1st metal line connects to a quick connect
the 2nd one is connected as shown
the 3rd one connects to a quick connect
the 4th one takes a left hand turn then connects to a straight rubber pipe

that rubber hose is really weird

just did my fuel pump today and i didnt see anything like that extra line you got there.

and i cut my access door a little bit more towards the back seat to get access to the quick connects.

best bet would to be to get a buddy to jiggle the line while you're under the car trying to see which one is moving. and double check that all four of your hoses are connected
