Getting my Modded LS1 Smog legal

We are thinking of relocating to San Diego and the wife wants me to loose my 99 LS1 with the excuse that it wont pass emissions. The car has AFR 205s/lt headers/comp cam (mild)/magna flow catback. It has performance cats and mufflers. Will I have any problem getting it through. Also, any tips/shops that test in San Diego. Hopefully I can continue to Z my way down the freeways.

Thanks

Well, the headers won't pass the "visual" portion of the smog test... Because they don't have a CARB stamp. You could always have someone make you a decal to fake them out on that.

The whole "CARB approval" thing with performance parts is a joke. All that is... what company has bribed the California Air Resources Board more money to be allowed to sell their product here.

Your car can be fully capable of passing within the limits. So it should be considered clean and sent on it's way. Nope, you don't have a CARB stamp on those parts

As for the rest... I don't know how clean your car runs, but it very well could pass as it is if it's in perfect running order. You did say you had cats. I'd be willing to bet it would.

What are the specs of the cam. That will be the biggest thing for passing the sniffer. The LTs though will kill the visual.

The cam is a comp LSX 224/228/114xer. Is there a fine for the non-Carb LT headers? Someone mentioned paying $200, is this a fine? The inspection is every two years, I can deal with that. Thanks for the info.

No fine for that... They just won't smog your car. You'll have to locate a "friendly" shop that's willing to help you. And then not tell anybody about the guy so you don't get him arrested.

With a solid tune that cam should pass with no problems.

LTs will kill it for you. You either have to pay a friendly shop, hope they miss the LTs (good luck on that one) or put stockers (or shorties) on for the visual.

Also I think the fine for relocating your cats is WAY more then that.
