2009 Pace Car?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the new Camaro in a pace car trim. I'd like to see it lead the Indy500 and the Daytona 500. I'm not saying I know it's going to happen or anything, but I'm hopeful that it will. I want to see what they do with it.

Re: 2009 Pace Car?

correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't the vette been the indy500 pace car 5 times and the camaro 4? haven't they done it more than any other car? that would be cool to give the camaro another check mark to be up there with the vette again.

You sir, are correct. Chevrolet has lead the way more than any manufacturer (IIRC) and the Corvette is the most recurring pace model of all. Way to go Chevy, make it 5 for the Camaro too!

I would like to see one. I've seen a few renditions of what someone imagined it would look like.

I'm not certain on the camaro, but the Vette has had '78, '85 or '86 for the first C4 vert, '93 or 94, '98, '02 (I think) for the 50th, '04 (red white and blue), '05 (C6 vert), and '06 (C6 Z06). The first time I thought about it, I was darn impressed the Vette had paced 4 out of the last 5 years.

So, that totals at 8 for the Vette...that's awesome!

Re: 2009 Pace Car?

ah you are right. the vette paced in '78, '86, '95, '98, '02, '04, '05, and '06...wow thats a lot of times.
Well see, without a camaro to pace it, the vette has been able to soak up all the glory. Get that camaro out there to pace around the brickyard again!

Considering the wave of legendary nameplates coming back, engines roaring... I can see them using the new Cobra in 2007, Challenger in 2008 and Camaro in 2009, saving the best for last.

If you are speaking about the Indy 500, I doubt that any Ford or Diamler-Chrysler product will be a pace car at next years 500. From what I have understood, IMS has been having serious troubles get manufactors to supply vehicles for support/festival duties. The brickyard on the other hand has always been GM, and will probably stay that way for awhile.

Re: 2009 Pace Car?

If they do make the Camaro a pace car for the INDY 500.. it has to look like the orignal 69 but maybe with an extra twist. Hopefully they will make a few hundred copies for people to swoop up too. Its cool seeing a 69 Pace Car from time to time, so seeing a 09 Pace Car would be even cooler!

Is this about what you were thinking about? What would you change?
