As of 8-26-06 the "Classifieds" section will be closed...old system returning!

For the past 4 months or so, we were trying a new Classifieds system here. As much as it was a benefit, many people didn't seem to grasp the extra features or just overlooked how to make the most out of the system.

After reviewing many people's concerns and thoughts about the new system, we have decided that it would be best for if we closed it and went back to the old tried and true Marketplace forums for people to buy and sell items on.

The old Marketplace forums will re-open and the Classifeds system will be closed to new ad entries, however people will still be able to reply to all Classifieds system ads placed for the next 30 days.

Link to Marketplace Forums

We will be making this change today (8-26-06).

It was worth a shot, and we thank everyone for their constructive crisicism and thoughts.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post them here.

Great! The old Marketplace was much easier to deal with and I seemed to get alot more responses when selling something..

Re: As of 8-26-06 the "Classifieds" section will be closed...old system returning!

I'm gonna have to disagree. I really liked the new Classified section compared to the old one that is back. It was MUCH more organized, and easier to find what you were looking for, not to mention easier to add pictures with. For those that complained about it taking too much time to sort through a few categories to find what you were looking for; How much time is it going to take you now that you have to look through 53,000 adds 1 by 1?

Mr. Debbler, is there anyway we could get the New Classified section back? Or were there really that many people on this board that dissagree with me and wanted the OLD style Classified section back? If nothing else is there a chance you could combine both styles so when you post a for sale thread it would go on a mass list, AND an organized section as well?

For those who didn't see it, I am going to post the exact same answer I gave here:

You (both) are of very few who liked the Classified's system. Most complained that it was too hard to find things because the categories were too broken down, see other threads in (the suggestion) forum.

On top of that...

- Very few people actually used the feedback system even though people cried about not having one for years.
- Sellers wouldn't click the SOLD link in their listing which ended it, and then asked us to make it so people stopped asking if the item was still for sale.
- The system didn't completely integrate with the board, and that also made things even more confusing.
- The system allowed people other than members of the board to contact seller via e-mail while still protecting the sellers personal info. This was a neat idea until a Nigerian scammer flooded every seller with e-mail attempts to scam them out of money. People then asked us to make it stop. How can we stop one person from e-mailing someone else? More complaints ensued...directed at US. Some people were too gullible to not wonder it it was "legit" and others were too stupid to just delete the e-mail. The replies playing the the scammers only let them know people were actually getting their scam spams, and they continued. I hope playing with the scammers was worth it.
- The system also had bugs that made things just not work right in some cases.

I could go on, but I am sure you get the point.

Overall the cons outweighed the pros. We asked everyone for their opinion (link above) and we read every opinion very carefully, both good and bad.

We are still open to suggestion on what we are now using (the original system). We don't have any plans to go back to the Classified's system.
BTW...it is DeBler.

Re: As of 8-26-06 the "Classifieds" section will be closed...old system returning!

I for one am glad of this change. I hope the member feedback section will be brought back too. I had a rotten experience with WINNING an auction, and then having the 19 (or 17) year old seller claim he "didn't know what he was doing" when posting an auction.
Auction style sales only work if there is some way to enforce the completion of sale on a winning bid. An auction the seller (or buyer) can simply back out of isn't an auction, it's a test of market interest.

Lets have the old setup, but we need the section that lets members give details on shady, lowlife, loser dealings so that seller (or buyer) gets run out of this forum to try their BS elsewhere.

personaly I liked the new system. It had a few bugs but I am sure they would have been worked out for everyone. The biggest problem with it was that fact that the traffic on it went to nothing. It just seemed that everyone stopped looing because they couldnt figure out the new system.

It had a lot of great features including feedback but no one was using its features.

I wont mind the old fourms back but I will miss the ability to post a pic

If I could make a suggestion it would be to allow the person who posted something for sale to post a pic. I really liked that feature of the new system but I dont think its possible with this old stuff.

Pic posting is still allowed in the Marketplace forums.

yeah but you have to have a link to an pic hosted somewhere else.

I'm talking about a guy like me who doesn't have a website or anything to host pics. With the old new fourm you could attach a pic when you made the post. But the new old fourm you have to have a link to a pic hosted elsewhere.

I get it now. But once again, it was a feature that didn't often get used. I would say that it got used 20-30% of the time if that.

There's TONS of free and easy photo hosts out there. Imageshack, Photobucket, etc. that everyone can use. Not to mention free web space (including CZ28 web hosting) as well.
