The 5th Gen Should Have....

The most reliable, advanced window motors ever created. They should spend half a million just in research and development of this component so that it never fails. You can completely obliterate the Camaro in a crash, but the window motors should still work. You know..... just to make up for the last 10 years. .

Hell, Id settle for the same window motors, just make it so you DONT HAVE TO DRILL HOLES IN THE CAR TO GET IT OUT THE FIRST TIME.

HERE HERE!!!

..... not only did my '97 go through 3 dtriver's side motors, the passenger side motor on my 2002 went out! Fortunately, I managed to get the window up, and am leaving it alone unrepaired for now.

Meanwhile, my 17 year old '89 T-bird is still on it's original pair..... just like the last 89 Bird I sold back in 2001!

I had my '02 for 3 years. It happened EVERY year.

First year it was passenger and drivers sides at the same time. Second year it was just the passenger. I beleive it was just one or the other the 3rd year as well.

It told them after the 3rd time at the dealer that fixed it every time that I will not be under warranty anymore when it happens next year. And I don't believe I should have to pay for a problem that's happened every single year. They said they'd 'work something out'. But I traded it in before the 4th year came around anyway.

Re: The 5th Gen Should Have....

You know I agree completely. Pass side on my car and my friend's Trans Am both went and I had to replace them. GM definitely has to redeem themselves on this for the entire 4th gen lifespan and beyond. Its like they almost find the most obscure but quite noticeable part on the car to underengineer like say, the rear end. Had a nice bearing failure on that too. I just hope someone's using their head this time around on the car.

I've had to do them on every fbody I've owned. When I bought my SS 3 months ago, I changed them both after 2 weeks, not because they died, but because I knew they would, and didn't want to get stuck with them down.

Re: The 5th Gen Should Have....

98 Camaro

Paint that doesnt flake off which has been a GM problem for a while now

Headlights that dont shut themselves off and while driving home from work at night

NOT have auto headlights or at least let you defeat them.

NOT have the box that catches the top of your foot when your driving

door lock cylinders that dont seize up and then the AAA guy GM roadside asistance subcontracted for $75 take vice grips to my key and consider it fixed I gave up when the second set of wheel cylinders seized up. you cant lock the car now without crawling through the trunk.

Mirrors that the adjustment cables dont snap on while the car is sitting in the parkinglot at work.

How big are your feet? I've never had a problem hitting my foot on anything down there, and I'm an 11

Re: The 5th Gen Should Have....

I'm a 14 - 15, depending on brand, and I never had a problem with the bump. Sometimes it's strange to me when I don't feel one there in another car.

After 2002, has any other GM vehicle had an annoying problem like window motors that any of you know of?

Its on the hood and is comming off in flakes as I mentioned. Color is Mystic Green but I doubt that matters.

either youre lucky or Im unlucky. Was middle of winter, they shut themselves off and I pulled to where I thought the center of the road is while locking up the brakes. I was pissed and scared at the same time. I had to turn around and drive back to work with headlights off till I got pulled over. The Cop was laughing trying to explain that it wasnt acceptable to ride around at night with them off till I pointed out that the swtich was on and with the auto sensing headlights its not possible to turn them off at night. I played with the switch and got them back on which got replaced later. I still dont know what caused it. Hasnt happened before or since

what year did that law go into effect. My moms 05 Civic doesnt have automatic light sensing headlight nor daytime running lights.

Size 12 I hate turning my foot sideways btw and even then the tunnel for the trans stopped my foot from going all the way down. No taking my shoe off is not a solution.

I've never had any of those problems... LOL Though I don't keep my cars over 3 or 4 years either.

But, I can say you CAN defeat the auto on headlights. It'll just defeat the DRL's also. It's behind the radio. You just unplug the thing and leave it out. Do a search online, that's what I did.

I doubt auto-on headlights are required by law. My '05 Aveo doesn't have them. Unless it's something that just became law. Though I'll still attempt to defeat them in whatever car I have. Along with the DRL's if they have them.

Never hit my foot on anything in my '02. Size 10....

Re: The 5th Gen Should Have....

Since I dont' have faith in them coming up with decent power window motors, I'd like to see them go the cartridge route. You know, the motors are like a nintendo cartridge. You just stick them into the door. When they go bad, bam, you just pull them out and stick a new one in. No muss. No fuss.
