The Announcement
The Announcement
OK,
So, the Dodge boys got the jump on the concept car to production announcement- Can GM PLEASE step up to the plate and stop all non-sense and announce the approval of the Camaro!!
Anyone care to weigh in on the impact Chrydoge's news today? The only way I see GM trumping this is to announce the first 5th gen hitting stores in time for Christmas....06!!!

Re: The Announcement
It depends on how you look at it. If one were to assume that GM was already working full bore on the new Camaro, and has been for a while, will it get to market any quicker if they announce its "approval"?
You might feel better to be able to read it in a press release, but press releases aren't everything.

Re: The Announcement
Also, the announcement would not be as great for GM. Sort of like the concept, it was a great unveil, but the challenger being there too stole some of its thunder. Why announce it at the same time? It will be built, don't worry about it
Re: The Announcement
Although DCX announced the challenger before GM will say anything about Camaro, remember that Bob Lutz almost 4 months said they were continuing with Camaro as if it was an approved project.
In GM's sort of way, that's an official announcement.

IMO, DCX is kinda just rushing the challenger out there. I hope they lower the weight on that oversized pig.....4,100lbs holy cow im sure they saw the 3,900lb 500hp GT500 loost to a 400hp C6...weight is a factor here Ford and DCX. Im sure GM knows all this to.

I hope GM is on weight watchers with the Camaro, if they make a lighter fastere car, they will sell tons of these things

I know there is a difference between a car's production announcement and its production date, but it's been 6 months since the concept was unveiled and I feel like GM needs to get the buzz back up. Besides, dont you think Dodge upped the modern pony car ante with their announcement?
Of course if we could rely on MotorTrend for information, the convertible is appoved and we should see a production car at the end of this year!! I think that is in the current issue or maybe last months- "From a GM insider"
Re: The Announcement
I swear people have a real hardon for a written announcement. Everybody has said it is as good as approved, and a written announcement wouldn't save it from having the plug pulled if GM chose to.
