GM to recall 400,000 pickup trucks
Defective brake lights suspected on Chevrolet, GMC, Isuzu models

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. is recalling about 400,000 pickup trucks due to defective brake lights.

The affected vehicles are the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon from the 2004-2006 model years and the 2006 Isuzu i-280 and i-350.

GM said some vehicles may permanently lose brake lamp function or have brake lamps that are always on. On vehicles with cruise control, that function also becomes inoperative.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company was not aware of any crashes resulting from the problem.

Dealers will replace the brake lamp switch assembly in the affected vehicles at no charge.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted GM to inquire about the issue after receiving three complaints, and the company issued the recall in response, Adler said.

GM notified NHTSA of the recall in a letter dated Friday.

Maybe the trucks couldn't hold enough illegal immigrants in the back.

Re: GM to recall 400,000 pickup trucks.

Has there been any recall like this for Mercedes vehicles? I swear I've seen more high end Mercedes than I can count in the last year or so, sitting in parking lots with their tail or brake lamps just steadily staying on - but no headlights on, so it's not like somebody accidently left their lights on (not sure if that'd be possible anyway since those cars are so automatic I'm sure it's difficult to disable auto headlamps).

Only other thing I could guess is it's a safety feature so that people notice the car in parking lots and don't back into it?

This recall jsut reminded me that I've always wanted to ask about those Mercedes.
