Factory stock bottom end 96 LT1 goes 11.53 NA

Bittersweet new best at VMP tonight.. Post #1 of 1

Awesome track night. only about 50-60cars altogether at VMP in petersburg VA.
Conditions were great at 6pm and only got better as the night wore on. Peoples times were dropping so quickly they were running out of their dial-ins.

Unfortunately for me I only got 2 runs. 1 at 6:05pm and 1 at 6:20pm. There were so few cars ready when I got there i hot lapped pretty much.

1rst run: rolled into it pretty good from 2k footbrake:
60= 1.53
1/8=7.30
1/4=11.531 @ 116.35 car shifted into overdrive 60-100feet before the traps evidently my shift point is set currently at 6200rpm, should be 6400rpm, my original tuner couldn`t remember were he set it and my factory tach`s not accurate.

2nd run: Hit it hard, something seemd to break loose in the rear and it spun a little ways out of the whole, left it in 3rd this time so I could run 3rd gear past 6200 at least.
60=1.69
1/8=7.45
1/4= 11.676@116.86

Then when I made the turn to get off the track I heard a thunk, thunk, thunk from the rear and the whole rear of the car was shimmying. I beleive the 10 bolt zexel-torsen limited slip took a dump on that second launch(200 rear end swap). End of racing for the night.

So all in all won`t too bad, got a new best, know there`s more in it for sure. gotta spend some dough now on a 12 bolt. Get shift points set for 6400rpm in all gears and I`ll be set. Not too bad for a bonestock shortblock LT1 w/ out a power adder.

Also this car still has a/c, power steering, all bumper supports and ran this time w/ 245/50r16`s up front and 255/50r16 MT drag radials out back.

Great times!! Time to pony up to the 12 bolt club, now...I'm going to go to the track tomorrow to see if the 10 rwhp I got with the EWP will get me .1 and 1 mph...Then we'll install the Kooks stepped Lts and see what happens....Nice to see more LT1s going 11s N/A...

Stock short block would mean stock cam too wouldn't it?

Most people refer to the cam being part of the valvetrain. Ie... the upper end not the bottom end, which would mean crank, rods, pistons ect... If you want to be technical about were the parts for the valve train attach to the engine, then the same can be said of the lifters. they would attach or sit in the shortblock. Not to mention the timing chain.

Let me break it down. I have bonestock umolested pistons, block, rods, crankshaft. They have never been out of the car. The upper end, cam, lifters, pushrods, timing chain, rocker arms are all a/m. The heads are ported stock units. The intake is a ported stock unit w/ a a/m TB.

Would you prefer Factory stock bottom end....I think everyone knows what I mean. Here I just changed the title for ya, that make you happy?

By the way what does your car run, mods ect...?

Might want to look at this link:

Here are a few from that page, notice they have non factory cam listed in their engine descriptions:

No need to get all touchy.... lol im just asking. And I have no clue what my car runs since I have never driven it. Kind of hard to drive a car from Iraq. Im sticking to the stock cam and stock bottom end myself and trying to run the hell out of it.

It's cool man! Hey those are nice times though. I hope to just get into the low 12s with all my mods. If I can break away with a high 11 i'd poop my pants. Check out what i'll be running.

LTs, 2 1/2" duals, 52mm bbk, cai, ported LE1 heads, 1.7 rollers, 3.73s, yank 3600 stall, prostars with skinnies and e/t drags, and about 3200 lb car.

Anyway keep it up man.

Yep, those cam`s certianly come on strong early, picked up a lot of power down low vs my xe 230/236. Our 60`s, 1/8th`s and 1/4`s were almost exactly the same.

Do you know what the weight diff between the 10 bolt and the strange 12 bolt is? I`m going to be needed one of those...

W/ almost your exact mods (stock internal) in a 3450lb car I went 12.41@109, but my stall was a yank SY3500 w/ a weak str 1.61, so it didn`t get me out of the hole too well. Oh, and unmolested heads...Lol..

So you think with the heads and a really nice converter i can see a low low 12 or high 11? Nothing beats out that time you ran though.
