I have been dealing with the Hatch Squeak for a while now, and after some searching on this board, I followed all the tips and this is what I did that worked. I have noticed that the sqeak was worse with cold weather, when it was wet out, or I washed the car. I don't know which one fix it was, but below is what I tried. This thread won't be news to anyone that has searched this issue before, but here are the things I did from digging through many threads for tips.

1. Got some round velcro pads from Wal-Mart, and used the fuzzy part where two rubber stops make contact with the body on the back of the hatch above the tail lights. This was done a while ago. But didn't help too much.

2. It wasn't the rubber seal around the hatch. I covered the whole area the seal touches around the hatch with rags, and it was still there.

3. Cleaned the hatch struts with some WD-40.

4. Checked the exhaust hangers, both were dirty, but the rubber was still "spongy", and wasn't torn.

5. Electrical taped the hooks, and bolts where the rear seat latches.

6. Electrical taped the hatch latch.

7. Spare tire and jack were both tight.

So far, 24 hours later no sqeak

I hardly ever hear a squeek. Maybe every 4-5 minutes in between songs when the volume is low. One thing you didn't mention which should help is adjusting the rubber hatch stops to make it a tighter fit. It will be harder to shut the hatch, but can add to minimizing the squeek.

 

Man I've had a squeek for a couple of years and will try some of these out. If I had dibbs on one it would be putting electrical tape on the rear seat hooks/bolts where the rear seat attaches. This seems like where mine would be coming from. I will definately put some velcro where the rubber hatch stops make contact with the hatch, and adjust them...

Tape worked for me,, second batch of tape in five years (50K) tried adjusting the stops but don't want to place extra stress on hatch mechanism.
