Camaro concept at LA auto show??
First I want to say WOW. I stop reading the 5th gen forum for a week to take care of my finals and all hell breaks loose. Still haven't seen the car, but I'd rather not until pics of it at NAIAS come out.
Which brings me to the topic (I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere btw, so I appologize if I missed it). Is there any chance the car will be coming to LA? I'd wet my pants if I could see it in person. Really.

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
From everything I have heard it will not be in LA. Something about it not being able to be in 2 places at once... Technicalities....

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
I doubt it will be here either, I'd love to see it but NAIAS is the main American show!

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
If it were in LA, I'd have no reason to go to Detroit!
No, it's a Detroit only gig. I tried to make the case. An e-mail I sent making the case for an LA unveiling made the rounds with a few of the big guns there after I asked the fellow running the shows.
A big gun thanked me and cc'd it to others, I guess to think about. Meanwhile, the guy running the show explained very clearly why it wasn't likely to happen.
Seems the place where Camaro would likely sell the most, and the state where all new car trends start is still sidlined as a place to show new Hybrids and Eco-friendly stuff.

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
Guys, it's because the concept is being stored in my garage, and they don't want me to have to drive it too far to get to the show . Not that I wouldn't mind driving the concept all the way to LA, but they said Detroit would be far enough for its maiden voyage . Hey, don't argue, just accept it .

Good question!
Does anybody "in the know" know whether we should expect to see the Camaro concept at the Toronto show in February? (17th - 26th)
... that would kick a$$

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
I'm guessing if it doesn't interfere with Chicago's.

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
Well, the Z06 made it to last year's Toronto show ... I don't know if that means there was no conflict last year, and hopefully there won't be any reason for the Camaro not to be at this year's show either??

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
I've been dying to find out if it will be here in Toronto for the show...
Seeing internet pics will still be awesome, but not like seeing it in person.

exactly. GM seems resigned to completely give up the west coast market to foreign makes. they should be doing completely the opposite instead. the LA show may not have as much prestige, but it sure has a lot of people driving civics, accords, camrys and whatnot come to check out what's new and cool. for them, everything GM brings out is a year behind. a lot of stuff GM has no display would be seen on the street for 6 months. of course GM won't draw a crowd with something that old.
the LA crowd is the crowd GM needs to wow. and I mean, NOW not tomorrow. there may not be a tomorrow for GM in california. just go drive around ANY college campus parking lot. it's all toyotas, hondas, occasional mazda/nissan/ford/hyundai. when these kids graduate and start making money they won't be buying from GM.

Re: Camaro concept at LA auto show??
Don't think for a minute that we don't know the importance of the West Coast market.
The problem is that LA schedules the show on top of NAIAS. NAIAS gets thousands of press peeps........thousands...whereas LA gets less than 100.
Now........LA organizers realize that and LA gets moved in November in 2006....(two shows....January.....then in November...then they stay in November from here on out)
I will post a schedule for the concept after January 9.
