Tire sizes

This bothered me the first moment I saw the pics. The tire sizes look great...I suspect they are 325s or bigger.

What about the version of the car geared to female sales? How will a narrow set of 245s look in the rear with those huge wells?

I don't see it. I think all models are going to have to have larger sized wheels. Its almost as if the rear was designed specifically for a larger tire.

This is in contrast to the new Stang, which seems to have been designed for a narrow tire. Fat tires on the new Stang look wrong and out of place.

blasphemy, fat tires never look wrong or out of place on an american RWD car with any HP.

I'm sure the concept is a little more radical than the production car will be. I hope they don't hamper the car with wheelwells that can't fit good rubber myself. One thing that sucks about the GTO is that you can't get a lot more than the stock 245s under it without rolling the fender lip and careful selection of wheel offset

I deffinatly think that 225/235's will be on there standrad. 235/60-16's. Mid level will be 255/45-17's and then a 275/40-18 for higher ups

Yeah thats sounds most realistic.....I dont see them getting much bigger over the 4th gen

Narrower tires can use rims with different backspacing, to a point.
I just wonder about the tire replacement cost of an 18" front/ 19" rear set up.
Maybe better as an 17" front / 18" rear set up...depending on models I guess.

This is true. One thing that people forget, and I see it too often, is that you might be able to afford the car, but can you afford the upkeep onthe car? 18 inch wheels arent 60 bucks a pop boys and girls. Expect to be paying 200 PER tire for a quality tire, not some off brand Japanese or Korean tire.
You will be paying that a lot more often then some of you with 16's.

This doesn't just bit performance cars either. A lot of people at work have been upgrading their old cars lately. One guy totalled his early 90s corrola that had IIRC 14" steel wheels on it, now has an altima with 17s. Blew his mind that 1 tire for the altima is as much as 4 for his old car was.

Yep. What is even crazier is that Bridgestone and Goodyear have the testicular fortitude to price there tires HIGHER then Michilen!
More and more regular cars are getting standard 16's, even if they are steel rims.
In the end, you cant go wrong with a set of BFG's.

I'll bet it's under 285 for the widest factory tire, based on how easy it is to hydroplane on wider tires.

C5 Corvette (275 rear) in rain is cake, Viper (335 rear) in rain is death.
