Is this an LSx engine and what tranny?
http://img504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=20e08b19pu.jpg
From that pic, does that oil pan look like any of the LSx engines?
What about the tranny does it look like any already made.
Maybe it's obvious to somebody that it's an LS2 and a T56 but since I don't make a habit of flipping my car upside down just wondering if we can identify the pics and if they are something different it may give us a hint of what power train it's getting.

Re: Is this an LSx engine and what tranny?
Id bet my savings account its an LSx engine.
Thats pretty much the only V8 option for this car. Theres really not much visual differentiation in the motors besides intake manifolds, and probably none especially from the bottom. The accessory drive will most likely be different however due to the cars unique packaging requirements. Its got an oil pan though, so even in the event it was something fancy like a LS7, no dry sump oiling on this vehicle.
I believe the tranny in the pic is a T-56.

Not sure about the transmission, but oil changes are going to be a lot easier.

Why do you say that? From that pic, it looks like the oil filter is in the same spot as it is on the LS1, which is a pain.

Re: Is this an LSx engine and what tranny?
I have an LT-1, which has the oil filter crammed up above the manifold/header. Everytime I pull it off I have oil all over my headers. I never knew the LS-1 had relocated the filter, so for me it's a new location.

Looks like a T-56 tranny to me, but I haven't a clue as to what engine that is.

Looks like the LS1 (LS- anything) oil pan to me . And what's so difficult about doing an oil change on an LS1??

Yeah, I have never had a problem changing the oil either.

Re: Is this an LSx engine and what tranny?
Its obviously an LS series motor and a T56 trans........which is 100% what we expected...that the car fit a V8 and have a 6 speed option.

I wonder how hard it will be to change the oil filter once you put long tube headers on that car.

Re: Is this an LSx engine and what tranny?
This might have been said already but i have not seen it.
Does anyone think there will be power upgrades to this coming from GM? I found where the cobalt SS has gotten stage 1 and 2 supercharger kits from gm, should we expect the same? http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/printthread.php?t=7412

It appears that the Cobalt is not the only car in the pipeline with plans for a supercharger. Found this a little while ago:
http://forums.motortrend.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1
Not that we need yet another car with an "SS" badge, but even still, I think I would be able to look past the monotony of an SS Corvette for the downright frightening level of performance that this car would be able to deliver.
Rumor has it that this car is slated for a 2008 release. So if we can expect the 5th gen either that year or a year later, would it be completely out of the question to think that GM might have plans for a SC'd version (LS2? LS4?) to give the upcoming 505hp Challenger a run for it's money?
