How bad are the markups going to be?
We've all seen what these price gouging dealers can do. I'm not willing to throw $3500 right into the dealers pocket just to own one. Will GM be able to somehow handle this, or will the 27,000 Z28 turn into a 32,000 one.

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
look at whats going on with the Solstice and Z06. i think markups during the initial launch are unavoidable. i saw 05 Stang GTs going for $3-$5 thousand over sticker around here when they hit the lots.

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
I would imagine there will be "dealer adjustments" of 3-5k sadly.

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
I'll be waiting for the mark ups to pass before I buy mine...but then again, I have to wait for the Z28 anyways....unless I get a base and trade it for a Z

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
5-6 grand. that's typical for new popular cars in that price range. once you get up to SRT-8s and regular C6 vettes the markups are about 10 grand. f*cking stealerships. i saw a C6 vert M6 the other day at the local Chevy dealership going for 73k (MSRP was 51)

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
Unfortunately, I do believe there will be mark-ups and further, I think $3500 is very conservative. Weren't the mark-ups on the Solstice in the 10's of thousands? Now think about a car that will be in far more demand. And yes, initially, I think you will see a high-end V8 Camaro outprice a Vette at the same dealership. Stupid as it sounds, ludicrous as it may be, this will happen and someone will have photos to prove it.
Good thing I get employee pricing (until GM takes that away from the UAW).

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
I think with learning from the GTO Solstice and the Z06 GM has to say something to the dealers..I know they cant "do" anything..actually they could by only allowing dealers that didnt do insane markups but the car first..maybee? Or just put a note out there that GM needs this car and the greed will not only hurt GM but you might be selling Toyotas if you keep price gouging the customers..

I believe GM has tried "suggesting" to dealers to cool it with the gouging on their recent hot cars, but some do it anyhow. If I was in charge, I would be taking note of any Chevy dealer that gouged on ZO6s, and they would get nothing but pewter V6 Camaros with no air conditioning for the first year.

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
yeah, GM dealerships suck. the reason they can't sell any GTOs for example is because they all have ridiculous markups on a car that is HARDLY in demand. i mean, that's kind of...retarded

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
No, alot of them don't. So go to the dealerships that don't use the inflated "market Adjustment". In fact, one thing I like to do is go to a dealership with them, ask to look at a hot car, test drive and then tell them "I don't deal with price gougers, thanks for the ride" Pisses them off badly

bay area dealerships dont let people test drive GTOs, and they ALL have markups except for some automatics in crappy colors. but the 6 speeds are all at least 6k over msrp

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
Wow, sorry to hear that man. I can buy and test drive GTO all day, starting at sticker (or now red tag) here in Denver. Yes we have the dealerships who mark them up, I love to waste their gas and time when I am feeling bored. The cool ones, I just come window shop and leave the salespeople be.
PS-The crappy dealers are adding about 3k out here.

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
What if we get a database going. We can go around in our own areas when we are shopping and looking at the Camaro. We can report the price and options of the car to a database so that we can decide which dealers are being unreasonable, and boycott them.

I like this idea.. $3000 markup.. Worse comes to worse, if you can't find anyone that won't sell without markup locally , perhaps you can do this with the extra $3000 with a salesperson and dealer that WON'T markup out your local area..
$1200
You can fly the salesman over in first class to do the paperwork in person, at some fancy resturant, and then fly him back... or yourself.
$1500 for a nice professional personal covered car transport to send you the car.
and $300 I dunno, for any misc stuff.. or simply to give as a gift for the salesperson/dealership to set this up.
I'm just making these numbers up, but you see where I'm going?

Re: How bad are the markups going to be?
I already have an agreement w/my dealer to gett below MSRP is they don't offer GMS intially. Remember, shop around. A lot of the Z06 guys did and some didn't pay a market premium. Just FYI.
