If the camera didn't come with the software/cables, you'll need to buy a tv/video capture card. It will have the same kinds of hook-ups that are on the back of your tv/vcr and the software you'll need. Just make sure you have enough HD space. I went with WinTV personally. Does a decent job.

its a sharp camcorder. it uses the old school hi-8 tapes. the mini vcr lookin tapes. it has an a/v cable jack, but no usb jack or anything. would it be possible to transfer this video onto a newer digital camera using the a/v cable output?

They go for about $70. It allows you to basically watch TV on your computer as well as record what you see, whether it's cable tv or something off your camera.

You can also buy a convertor that plugs into the usb port. the convertor has a/v or s-video cables that go into your camcorder. I think it was made by Pinnacle, about $75 for the convertor box thingy and software. Has worked good for transferrring my 8mm.

actially joelius is onto something. I have a radeon 9550 card, and it has tv capabilities. and my dad seems to think it came with software to do this, and if not he can get it for me. Im hoping all I need is software to do the conversion. I know it'll plug in and play on my pc, just have to figure out how to convert it.

if you have the hardware (RCA inputs - might be an adapter that came with the card), you can get the software/drivers for it online ----> www.ati.com

its pretty straight forward, i think the hardest part about it is figuring out a decent video quality recording format... if you go too high quality, youll fill your hard drive up in a heartbeat.
