Question about Avon tires?

I need tires. my Kuhmos are bald as can be and rainy season is on the way. I will not buy them again. I saw these Avons on Tirerack, Avon Tech M500 and Avon Tech M550 A/S. Anybody heard anything about them, or have experiance with them? Another tire i am considering is the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval. What are these like?

I don't have any experience with either of those tires, but you may want to check out this thread.... http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=399559

Re: Question about Avon tires?

I've heard nothing but good things about them, but never used them personally.

Tirerack's surveys seem to agree, as both are their rated #1 tire for their category:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...y.jsp?type=UHP
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

User reviews seems positive, but mixed (they are always mixed though). Read through them if you haven't -there seems to be about 10 F-Body reviews in each category.

Ya, they're always mixed because you always get the idiots that run a summer tire in snow or run improper pressure etc.

Its been my experience that you tend to get what you pay for with tires. Cheaper tires are usually more out of round and tread width is usually narrower. I'm not saying all inexpensive tires are like that. Some are good deals but you have to pay attention. I don't understand why people will look for the cheapest set of tires they can find when they spend a small fortune on more power/better handling. Do you want your car limited by the tires?

Re: Question about Avon tires?

I was looking at the Firestones and Avons too. I ended up getting the 275-40X17 Avons on 9.5 rims. I had 16inch. I'm not much of a power driver, but they seem to grip pretty good.
I think I gave up a little in ride for the 17 vs. 16 inch.
I probably haven't gone more than 100 miles on them yet.

Keep me posted on how those Avons work for ya. I'll probably go with the firstones though, corvette owners had good things to say about them. (in the reviews on tirerack).
