i stopped today to look at this 99 ls1 "ss", it had the SS spoiler, hood, and ram air kit, but it didnt say SS on the ram air kit, and it had torque thrust II's, anyways, inside it dindt say anything about an SS, no plaque w/ the number SS it is etc, so i asked the car salesman if it actually was an SS, and he said "ya cant you see all the SS badges on it"(he was trying to act all cocky), i said "man i could put thebadges on my car, doenst make it an SS" we went back and forth for a bit until he asked someone else that worked there" how can we show him that thats a real SS", the guy said" its an ss" and looked away, then i said how do you konw, he said "its an ss" and was also trying to act cocky, he said only the 2003 camaros had the interior plaques etc,, wtf?? 2003? haha, by this time i was starting to get amused, i told him the last yr was 2002, and he said no the last yr was 2003 and was STILL trying to act cocky acting like he knew wtf he was talking about, then he looked in a blue book and was like "ya, i guess there wasnt a 2002" but all in all , they couldnt explain how it was an SS, i just left, they were a bunch of ****, but with both of them ganging up on me, it made me think twice about me being right, all REAL LS1 SS's have the plaques right??

P.S. sorry for the pointless story haha

2003 parts funny, I see that a lot. Other day I was looking for parts and it went up to 2006 Camaro .

*whispers* LS1 SSs had to order the SS dash plaque.

My friend and I went looking for a SS for him and we had a dealer insist that the V6 camaro on the lot was a the SS and in fact a V8. All we had to do was tell him to pop the hood.

My 2002 SS came only with the badges on the side and rear. I had to order my plaque separately.

aaah, well, i think he thought i was talking about the dale earnhardt plaqus or something, but either way, maybe i wrong, but they had no clue wtf they were talking about, just trying to BS there whole way through the convo

WAIT!!, what about on the ram air box, is it supposed to say SS on it, theres didnt, they had a battery cover that said SS tho, lol im trying to find anything that will prove that this wasnt an ss

Slp equipped cars came with the SS dash plaque. Mine's a 2000 and it doesen't have a number on the plaque, but it says Camaro SS. My friend has a 99 SS and it doesn't have a plaque, but it doesn't have slp options either. You can order the plaques online from slp. I think there might be a way to tell buy vin, but i'm not sure.

You could take the VIN down and ask SLP couldn't you?

Just verify the RPO codes on the door... I don't know what the code for the "SS" was though... mine's fairly obvious.. WS6...

No way of telling if it's a SS by just looking at the VIN but SLP can confirm if it is a SS using the VIN. RPO code is WU8.

99blackSS is correct. The CAMARO SS dash plaques were an SLP option ($50.00 Cdn) so you will not find them on all SS's. However, all SS's will have the WU8 option code on the driver's side door sticker. If the door sticker is missing, SLP can confirm that it is an SS through the VIN number. Also, all SS's were given a build number by SLP which will be on the build sheet or can be obtained by calling SLP Performance Parts. If the car has any SLP options at all they will be on a sticker placed on the passenger's side door.

Not all SS's came with a dash plaque and there was nothing on the air box that said SS. If you ordered the base SS you got the hood wheels spoiler and side badges. All the rest of the crap, the deck mat, floor mats, key fob, car cover, dash plaque, were all optional. Just call SLP with the VIN and they will tell you if its a real SS or not.

didn't SLP do the WS6's also?? Why would they have a special VIN, but the SS wouldn't??

On the topic of RPO SS codes, mine says WU8, confirmed to be an SS from SLP but last night I looked at a 97 SS 30th anniv car and it said WU9 (no WU8 and its the original owner still) on the RPO sticker, it also said LT1, I was hoping for an LT4 car but no luck. The VIN is a P. So whats with the WU9?
