Talking 97 Z28 vs. 2005 GTO 6spd

Hi everyone,
My brother who has a 2003 Mustang has never been able to drive my 1997 30th Anniversary Z28 since I put 3.73 gears on it last May. So I let him take it out with me, and of course he runs into one of his old classmates who has a brand new 2005 GTO. After a small amount of small talk, the light turns green and we both wait until we're on the straight part of Route 522 and go for it. We totally kicked the crap out of the GTO and he never pulled on us until about 80, then he missed his 3-4 shift went back into second barked the tires and gave up. We pulled up at another light later when we were going to turn (he was going straight), and "he said, you caught me off guard." Shouldn't he be able to kick our butt caught off guard or not? Like I said he never pulled on us until 80 or so, I expected to lose completely. Below are the mods the car has done. I want to get people's input on this, so feel free to give me your opinion.

No way, w/ a good driver they run higher 12's and trap in the 107-108 mph range...LS2 is dynoing in the 330-340 rwhp range, it outpowers you by alot, especially w/ your stock manifolds...My 97 w/ the same mods ran right w/ yours. Id say you need some headers and a good cam just to hang.

From what I've seen on the net, he should be running low 13's, high 12's at about 107-110....so he should've beaten you, but a bad driver can turn a 12 sec. car into a 14 sec. car pretty easily.

Antz and Jason,
I agree with you, but a kill is a kill. I thought he should've beaten me, just confirming it. I'm not going to mod my car any more for a while because starting a family and buying a house is top priority now.

awesome. Your car traps 105mph? That seems about right then. You're lucky that he missed one of his shifts to give u the win....but a win is a win!

Antz,
Yes, I had the sn dan30thz28. I think that I hadn't posted often enough to keep it. So I changed it to DM30thZ28. Yes, I had met you about 3-5 years ago at Englishtown, you have a blue Z. I figured I get back on the board to get feedback about what happened. Take care.

Well if you beat him you beat him. All the guys on this board can magazine and estimate race all day, but they can't take your win away from you

Antz,
I got rid of those headers and got my manifolds coated inside and outside by HPC. No problems since then. So now you have a red '96? Anything done to that car? How's that running in the 1/4? Like I said, I'm saving for a house and starting a family soon, so I have to leave the car as is , for now . My bro is taking his mustang up to e-town in a few weeks. Let me know if you'd be interested in coming out. Take care.

Hey no both cars are sold, I owned the 96 about a year and a half ago when I was stationed in alaska..It had the performance axle w/ a cutout and cai w/ 40k miles, it ran pretty good for what it was . Then I realized what am I gonna do w/ a z28 in alaksa Also did the house buying family thing here...I bought a place right outside freehold on 9 about 10 minutes from the track..Just started a pretty good job so im lookin to get something shortly whatever it may be...I frequent etown as a spectator pretty often since its so close...I may very well be up there.

Antz,
Maybe I'll see you there. Like I said earlier, I'll put up a post when I'm planning to visit E-town with my bro.
