why no hoodscoop on the Magnum SRT8?

Every other vehicle in the Dodge SRT lineup has a functional hoodscoop, but the Magnum version has none. It doesn't even have a non-functional scoop. Any idea why?

The 300C doesn't, granted it is a Chrysler. I thought I saw a pic that showed a reversed scoop, like the Cobras? Not sure if it was functional, probably not.

I think the Magnum is pretty badass! I liked it even before the SRT8 came out. Heck, I liked it when I saw the concept car at the Dallas Auto Show 2 years ago!

Ditto.

While I like the looks of the 300c more if push came to shove I think I'd buy a Magnum over any other Dodge product. They look good they are kind of quick(the SRT-8 version should run into mid 13s at least)and they have a lot more functionality to them. If I have to have a four door vehicle for a performer having the cargo capacity of a wagon doesn't hurt.

Good for you. You like a station wagon. I don't and no amount of commercials and PR will make me like it.
I have nothing against the Magnum, except that its unique styling in the front end (which I like) will be used on the future Charger. Other than that, it might as well have a VW or H on the front grille as far as I'm concerned.
I respect the Neon SRT but as far as the truck goes...well, it is a truck. I don't understand why a bunch of pencil pushers want to drive a big shiney, clean, and purdy truck, but hey...different strokes/different folks.

a station wagon though... :blah: Maybe if I ever become a home-husband, and have a bunch of kids n all that. :blah: I respect import ricers more than people who buy a station wagon for being sporty. at least ricers are doing what car guys have always done: buy a cheap car and mod it for looks/performance. I just dont see teh need for 'street racing technology' for a grocery getter. That, to me, deserves a

I've always hated station wagons but the Magnum is one of my favorite cars at the moment. After sitting in one and feeling that power, it's a fun little toy.

That's a very short-sighted view of performance cars.

Nobody said affordable performance had to be limited to rice rockets and pony cars. I don't know how old you are, but when you have your own place (even if you're unmarried) and you need a vehicle that you can actually fit things into, a Camaro/Mustang or a Honda/Cobalt/Scion, or for that matter even a GTO is not going to do the job. These are the kinds of people who would normally have to give up their performance cars to buy SUVs or pickups, but now they can have huge V8 power without giving up the functionality of a larger car.

Heck, nobody even said performance had to be sporty looking. Maybe some people don't want to drive cop magnets to their professional jobs every day. If you're taking a potential high-dollar business client to lunch in a 2002 Trans Am with Ram Air hood scoops, a rumbly exhaust, cloth interior, and a relatively large stock spoiler on the back, he probably won't look at you as much of a professional, and more of a street-racer in a suit and tie (even if that's what you are, you don't have to show it). You'll want a car that's a little more conservative looking, but still a great performer for when you aren't at the office.

That's what the LX cars (300C/Magnum) are all about. "Fast with class". That's what the G-body and the Ford Thunderbird were about. The gentleman's performance car. No hood scoops or super curvy body lines, just a classy, near-luxury car with a ton of horses under the hood.

I, for one, am glad to see Chrysler bringing back performance in a practical package. I have no need for a large vehicle right now, since I'm 18 and can borrow the family minivan for the once-in-a-blue-moon that I need to haul something, but I can definitely see myself buying a vehicle like the Magnum 10 years down the road (obviously it would be a newer model by then, but same basic philosophy)

Maybe some of us are too hell-bent on price/performance ratios and looks to realize that performance comes in more than one package.

I guess you have a point. It's just a station wagon to me, but I understand where you're coming from. Personally, I'd just rather have one car for each purpose than some all-in-one.

Re: why no hoodscoop on the Magnum SRT8?

My Hemi Ram can haul and haul ***. It is just not a great people moving car. With one baby, and planning on a second one, I need a car that can accomodate two childeren, the wife and the mutt in the rear. But I still like my fun. Mind you, I am upgrading from a Matrix XRS. So I am already used to the wagon. I just like one that can haul groceries as well as gluteus maximus. I opined to the wife that the lower ride height, brembos make the SRT8 safer than the RT. Not to mention, I promised I wouldn't mod it like I have her truck. The truck has Thorley headers, flowmaster exhaust, electric fan, APS convertor, true flow intake, Hotchkis TVS and corresponding bilsteins and superchips programmer. Anytime we have to go to the dealership for servicing, she holds her breath on account of all the mods. She will like a car that I can drive off the lot and just drive. (I still plan on going with a 3" exhaust from Magnaflow and a true flow intake). But these mods are somewhat invisible. Hehehehe

"Functional" is a term that can be used very loosely.

It's functional as far as it being an actual hole in the hood.
But it doesn't scoop air into the engine. In that regard I wouldn't call it functional.
