Driveshaft balance- affected by pinion yoke?

Something interesting I've noted the last time I put a set of gears in a 3rd/4th gen f-body. There appears to be a weight welded on the inside of the pinion yoke. For many years I've have SOMETIMES been able to cure a driveshaft vibration on these cars simply by flipping the driveshaft 180* on the pinion yoke. I never understood WHY it worked, but many times it did. I think this may be the reason why, but I'm still not totally convinced.

Did the factory weight the pinion yoke as part of the overall balancing process of the driveshaft?

NO, i work at american axle and mfg. and the pinion flange is not balanced to the driveshaft. it (the center without tubes) goes into a seperate fixture and is spun to about 55 mph and then if it needs a weight then its welded on. as for getting vibrations out by 180ing the u-joint must be a fluke.
