Nice fun run

Background: Southern California between Oceanside and San Clemente, northbound I-5 near the Immigration Checkpoint, about 6:30 am.

On the way to work this morning I'm cruising at 70 in the 3rd lane. A guy in a late model black Mustang GT is slowly passing me, but slows, downshifts, and paces me. There's no way I'm running at this point because there are too many cars, so I just look over and smile. His windows are tinted so I don't know if he saw me or not, but at this point he floors it and take off. Man, those Mustangs sound SWEET... the perfect muscle car exhaust sound.

As luck would have it, I catch up to him and pass him in the lanes waiting to get through the check point -- we're doing like 15 mph in these lanes, it's not like I blasted by him . I exit the checkpoint about 10 cars in front of him, but I'm guessing he'd still like a little run to get the juices going so I go slow... 65 in 3rd gear, lane #3, and wait for him to pull up. I see him in my rear view mirror as he comes flying up in the 4th lane -- don't know how much faster than me he's going but I estimate 70 or so, just like before. As he gets to my window I floor it and we're off. Because of the initial speed difference, I'm immediately in the hole by a car or so. Top of 3rd, I stop the pull and start reeling him in, and by 4th it's over. We're doing about 125 with me out by a car or so and that's when I back out due to traffic. We both drop back down to a cruising speed of 70 and both take the next exit. I wave as he passes, but again, due to tinted windows, don't know what he saw or did.

Lots of fun and definately a way to get the blood pumping

Good work. It's gotta suck for him to be flying up on someone like he was, only to have you stop his pull and add a car length.

Yep those are the sweetest kills because they cannot complain about anything.

Re: Nice fun run

I think he was just checking out how he would hang. He paced me for a while so I'm pretty sure he knew it was a 405Hp Z06 (fender badges) and when I passed him I looked over and he had his window down (doing 100+ mph!!) so maybe he was waiting to hear the exhaust note as I went by

Nice, fun run. He wasn't a dick who tries to fly-by or get close to your bumper after a loss. Just cruised on in to work afterward.
