3.8L V6 blowing white smoke after TB ported
My wife has a 3.8L V6 in her GTP.
Removed the TB and ported it. Cut out the pillar under the MAF.
Replaced it on the car it was leaking coolant onto the driveway at first.
Then later started billowing white smoke from the exhaust and barely holding idle.
The local shops dont have a TB gasket is stock.
Am I correct in assuming its the TB gasket thats the problem?
What's the TB torque rating for the bolts?

On the GTP? Torque down ratings are different on the L67 if I remember correctly. But one thing I might consider is that maybe a little of the coolant that leaked made its way in to the cylinders and is being burned out??

I knew it had to be coolant burning
Try your gaskets and if all else fails get a new throttlebody. It's not worth ****ing up the motor over a couple extra HP.

But I think we found the problem. We were over torquing the lower bolts thinking it would hold better when in fact that was causing it to leak across the top and into the motor.
I coated a gasket on both sides with Permatex Ultra Blue and torqued all 3 bolts down until they were just snug.
Hopefully this does it.

I've been trying to figure out a way to bypass the coolant.
No ideas so far.
The shop used an epoxy with a hardner and it still blew that out!
Its not warped as far as I can tell either. I put a straight edge on it and it was perfect.

There should be a coolant line -- two actually, on your throttlebody. All you need to do is unplug them from the throttlebody, get a stainless hose connector and some clamps, and have them both connect and be sure you clamp them do it nice and tight so theres no leakage there. Then cap off the coolant inlet and outlet on the throttlebody and boom - you're done.
