Paxton 1000hp pump is so quite, is something wrong?

Did know where to post this but I would think most people on this forum would know more about pumps.

They say the 8F001-550 billet pump from Paxton is suppose to be the exact same as the Aeromotive A1000 besides the casing. My brother has the A1000 and is loud as hell. Mine is so quite I have to click the key off and back on to make sure the pump is working

I have that exact pump and I have a step down box that drops the voltage so I can hear myself think when I'm putting down the street. Mine is loud as hell when I step it up to full voltage. I also don't have much of an interior in the car either.. but it would still be loud with full interior/insulation.

I would hook up a fuel pressure gauge (if you already don't have one) and see if the pressure ever falls.. if it does, maybe something is wrong with the pump.

I have had both pumps and it is a Aeromotive pump painted blue with a paxton label and it is loud! I would throw a MultiMeter on the pump leads and check the voltage. I can't imagine a quiet pump of this style wow are you sure its working, it should be very loud during the first couple seconds you turn on the key during the inrush start up.

I hooked it up strait to the battery and it still is quite. I know I'm getting fuel pressure cause the car starts up. Do you think maybe the fuel pressure is too low, I haven't check pressure for this car yet

I would still check the voltage at the pump with the car running and the pressure try to bump the pressure way up and see if it makes any noise. I don't know man it should make noise I have never seen one that wasn't loud as hell just last year replaced my bad one and it was loud as hell brand new.

Make sure you have the correct fuel filter and measure the current the fuel pump is drawing from the battery. A restrictive fuel filter will make the pump very loud. No filter will make it very quiet but you are taking a chance with larger particles damaging the pump.

I just got off the phone with Paxton and they assured me that there pumps are not the same as Aeromotive A1000. They said there pumps used to be loud but have changed and now is alot quiter. Do you think I should trust them?

You should call Aeromotive and see if they say they are different. They will tell you if they build them for Paxton. Odds are you wil find out that Aeromotive does make it for Paxton.

hmmm... my A1000 is not too loud at all. Neither is the one on Texlurch's car. You can't hear the pumps when the cars are running...

Have you checked your AFR with a wideband yet? I wonder if the quiet pump has anything to do with your extra heat in your headers.

I have owned both pumps. The paxton looks exactly the same, has the same dimensions and has the same specs HMMMM do not trust paxton tech-support on this one you would probably get a different answer if you called back anyway. Granted some are louder than others but they all make noise. Something is wrong I would call them and tell them you would like to send this pump back to be tested and replaced if found bad. I would not risk melting my engine!

Just my2cents

the tech guy told me the older ones were the exact same as the A1000. The new ones they sell now are made in house. He told me it is not loud but can be heard from inside when keyed on. He also told me to put my car on a dyno and look at the afr's That would probably cost me as much as the pump itself He actually put me on hold to ask another guy that builds these pumps. He confirmed and told me again, these pumps aren't loud.

I'm temped to just buy another paxton pump just to see if it sounds the same and have it for a spare

Ya thats a great idea put your car on the dyno go lean because of the bad pump and blow your engine pure geniuse!

A spare pump isn't a bad idea these pumps don't last that long if you do alot of street driving.
