Does anyone know the rules for this place? I checked out the rules section for their website, but there isnt anything on the page. Also, I have a convertible, so will I even be able to race? How is this place compared to Englishtown? Ive been there, but never Atco. Any replies would be appreciated.

 

I think everyone has to wear a helmet, seatbelts. 12.99 to12.00 need a drive shaft loop. 11.99-11.00 you need a cage. They check for oil leaks and good rubber. I'm ashamed to say I still don't have a DS loop. They for some reason never bother to look under my car. I think maybe because it looks like a 14.3 second car and they pretty much just wave me through. I plan on putting a DS loop on it before I go back again. They get pretty excited about guys jumping lanes. So make sure you never do that. They expect you to do your burnout in the same tire tracks as all the ricers with radial street tires in all the water you can't get around. No speeding beyond like 20 mph after your run on the return trip. Its quite a bit cheaper to get in on the work week, weekends is expensive. Other than that just be sober and have at it,

I believe that ragtops need a roll bar running 13.99 and faster.

 

Ragtops need at least a rollbar. DS loop below 12.99. Either a 6 or 8 point cage below 11.99 (can't remember which). Ten point cage below 10.99. Helmet at all speeds. Tech there is a joke unless you drive in on slicks or trailer the car in. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are the open street races. Tuesday is the Gamblers race, which takes up most of the time. I've gotten at most 5 passes on a Tuesday. In the winter, Sat/Sun they are open (weather permitting) for Test & Tune from 0900-1500. It's $12 on the weekdays to run, and the weekend winter T&N it's $18 I think.

And my personal thoughts: Ask for either lane 8 or 10. That way, you'll get into the right lane, and it hooks up WAAAAYYYY better than the left lane. At least for me.

Like they said,13.99 you need a rollbar and 5 pt harness. other than that,the tech is like Etown,both NHRA tracks. Also if you run slicks,you need a d/s loop at 13.99.

 

Well guys, I have a 94 Mustang GT convertible, so I wont be running any fast times. Im just looking for something fun to do, ya know? Since I probably wont even be in the 14s, all I will need is a helmet? Also, do they rent them out there, or do you have to bring your own?

I was planning on going on a Friday, BTW.

 

Put some drag radials on that 5.0 and it will be in the 14's. BTW, they do rent helmets to participants at the tech location.

I've noticed that a lot of ..... cars break down there. Rotary engines or ricers mainly...and when something there breaks or spills onto the track, they take a long time to clean it up...

....or some teal95z28's t-top flies off during a run. LOL

 

They may take a while to do a cleanup, but they do a good job. I ran my best 60' time right after an older Integra pissed oil all over the starting line of the right lane. And just for those who say that's why I got a low 1.9 on street tires, my two previous runs were both 1.97's.

 

A rollbar in a convertible isn't required until you run below a 14 flat. A 94 GT Convertible should be running low 15's, high 14's (at least that's what mine ran). You basically only need a helmet if your car is stock. FYI for the rest of you...every track in NJ requires a helmet to race - no matter what times you're turning.

Atco is a nice friendly track. The staff is there to help you and they act like it. They're not there to bust *****, they're there to keep you safe.

Don't speed in the pits and don't speed on the return road. It sucks that you can't go around the water. You can, however, send a friend up there a few cars before you and they can guard the hose to be sure no more is added before you run.

Don't do your burnout until you are told. I hate it when there is a car staged and the car behind them starts doing their burnout. This could be dangerous if you break lose and the other car hasn't left the line yet. So, wait until you're given the signal.

Im probably going October 4, since I have to go home for some stuff to bring back to school, if anyone wants to meet up there, and show me the ropes?

 

I'd consider your car basically stock. Like Jackie said it should be in the high 14/low 15 range. So you wont need anything else other than a helmet. Tech at Atco is pretty relaxed when you drive it in. When youre on slicks or tow it in they do actually check for the proper saftey equipment. I think all of the basic rules have been listed by everyone. If youve never raced there before I will suggest that you park it first and take a walk to the bleachers in the burnout area, watch and learn the order of things. Any questions just ask someone there. Most people will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

It's very similar. Like Brian said though, it's a good idea to take a walk down to the bleachers by the burnout pit and watch a few passes first. Check out where the staging beams are and all.

Only thing to add is bring sunglasses. The sun is directly behind you and shines directly on the tree. I had trouble seeing the lights. My first run there all the lights looked on. Sunglasses really help reducing the sunglare. Very simular to E-town except the return road is on the right (opposite of e-town).
