Lucas 42lb install prob - racetronix
I went to put in my Lucas 42lb injectors that I got from racetronix and ran into a stumbling point. Anyone else have an issue with getting the retaining clib to slide over the injector ? On my stock injectors, they seat fully in the rail with a 360 channel where the retaining clip slides over from left/right. The Lucas injectors will seat fully in the rail. However, there is no 360deg channel for the retaining clip. There is only a channel for a clip running parallel to the harnest plugin. When fully seated in the rail I would have to turn the injector such that the harnest plugin would be under the rail, not out to the side. Obviously this will not work.
There is another channel a little lower on the injector. It is 360deg so the clip will fit over it but won't be seated deep into the rail. Its getting late now so I wanted to toss out an email then tackle the problem with fresh light. Can I have the injector sit a little further from the rail and clipped in but not have it seated all the way? Try a different injector? Don't use the clips at all ? Obviously this is a blower setup so I am looking at hight FP application.
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions
Thanks
J

You don't require the clips to be installed, the rail will hold the injectors down. troy

The clips will slide on. There are probably two slashes on the side of the injector. Pust the injecter in and out. They will clip on.

Yes, there are two slashes ... they run north/south ... I need east/west for the clips to slide over ....

If they are anything like my 30lb SVO's I took a hack saw and very carefully cut a place for the clips to slide. It is plastic and just cut it as deep as the other slots. I had no problems.

I ran 42# Lucas injectors and they had double grooves like the other guy said and they worked fine.
But like the other "Other" guy said, if you've got an issue then forget the clips as the 4 bolts will hold the fuel rail down and you'll be fine. I lost a clip or two so I don't run them all

Ditto that. The clips are not needed.

I just put my 42#ers on from Racetronix, used the clips too, have no clue what problem your experiencing. There was only one groove the clip would fit in and that is the one i put them in, i have no leaking or anything.

I also have the 42# Lucas injectors and I have no idea why you are having this problem. Mine have a groove for the retainer clips and I popped them on just like stock. Maybe Lucas changed the design recently?!? I bought mine over a year ago.
If you don't have the groove, don't worry about it. Just like everyone else is saying, the rail will hold down the injectors just fine. I think the main function of the retainer clips is to keep the injectors in the fuel rail so that when you pull the fuel rail the injectors come out with the rail instead of staying in the intake manifold.

I recently bought 42# injectors from Racetronix about 2 weeks ago. I had no problem installing them with the use of the factory clips. I noticed that there are two slits on the injectors. The one on top goes all the way around the injector and the other one below that one only has half on each side. I used the one on top.

There have been no changes to the Delphi/Lucas injectors.
There should be no issues installing the clips.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I got the same 42 lb injectors from Racetronix just this past Friday and had the same problem.
I noticed after installing about 3 of them with the clips that the full grooves are too far towards the top of the injectors compared to the stockers.
And no, the clips will not install correctly into the lower groove. I just installed them without the clips, and most of the injectors are held in pretty steadily by the fuel rail. However, there is one that I'm worried about that seems to move up and down pretty easily.
I primed the fuel pumps a few times and they don't seem to be leaking. Haven't started it yet though......
