315's on 17 x 9's
I know a few people that are running 315/35's on 17 x 9's. They told me to go for it while others have told me not to. They run 285's on 17 x 9 1/2's and they say that's as far as they will go. Any opinions or experience on this subject?

While you may be able to cram it on, it will not be an optimal performer. If you want to do it just for looks it should be ok.
I run 315's on an 11 inch wheel.

I've seen 315 nitto's on stock salad shooters, looked a little weird but they hooked real nice.

I've heard that people have had blow outs when cornering when using a 315's on 9 inch wheels.

I thought 315's on 17x9's sounded like a bad idea, putting them on salad shooters sounds like an accident just waiting to happen.

I have 315 Nittos on my old SS wheels for track use. They do hook great, but they do bulge quite a bit, more then I would like. I would only put Nittos that wide on a 9 inch rim because they tend to be cut a little smaller then normal 315 tires.

Left side - 315/35-17 BFG Drag Radial on correct 17x11 wheel.
Right side - 275/40-17 GS-C on correct 17x9.5" wheel.

Think about what happens when you scrunch the tire on a wheel that is 2" smaller than is recommended by the manufacturer. If you think you are smarter than the engineer that designed the tire to fit on a specific rim width, go for it.

Roger Grotyohann (Grotyohann headers) ran a 315 on a 9.5" wheel but I sure wouldn't recommend it

Just curious... how do you know you didn't have any problems? Were you able to verify that the tire structure was not deteriorating more rapidly from the excessive heat generated by excessive flexing of the tread and sidewall? Did you do a side-by-side comparison with a set of the same tire on the correct width wheels to verify that tread life was not reduced?

I have question not about rim tire fitment but whether my 96 camaro would be able to fit a set of 315 width without rubbing the inner walls on turns as the tire flexs.... does anyone know?
I was thinking of getting 18 X 8.5 in the front and 18 X 9.5 in the back the wheels have a 32MM offset... Not sure if that helps anyone hehe doesn't really help me...
