Post T56 to TH400 Swap

I'm going to be doing a TH400 swap into my car.. I am looking for suggestions. I'd love to do this at one time, minimum downtime. What all will I need. I know a shifter, converter, flex place, tranny, and driveshaft are needed. Does anyone know how long of a driveshaft? This way I can just pick one up before hand. I already have an aftermarket torque arm, so, that is taken care of. The T56 cross member can be modified to work (make the mounting holes longer) etc.. Please, advice is HIGHLY appreciated and needed.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Sean, call Jason at FBodyCentral. We have a brand new complete T400 swap kit and one that is 300 miles old in a car going up for sale. Weve done about 6 of these conversions

Sean:

I had the M6->TH400 swap done by a shop, so I know most of what was required, but I don't know all the details of the install. And I have a driveshaft available if you are interested. Mark Williams 3" chrome moly, with 1350 billet input slider and yoke. $425 firm (its about $600 new), plus shipping, but since you are in NJ we could eliminate shipping. I'm in East Brunswick. The length of the shaft is 49.5" from tip of the slider to centerline of the rear yoke. You would have to verify that is the correct length, but it fit fine in my car with Strange 12-bolt rear. It only has a few passes on it, and was replace with a shorter shaft when I added the Gear Vendor.

As far as parts:

-tranny (duhhh)
-convertor
-pan if it doesn't come with one. I used stock GM.
-bell housing. I used JW ultrabell. SFI-rated. Requires some cutting on the TH400 case.
-valve body
-VSS reluctor and sensor. Yoyu will need to correct for the number of teeth on the reluctor. One possibility is flashing an A4 progam into the PCM.
-flexplate SFI-rated
-dipstick. I used the Lokar and it is way too short, ending up under the cowl. Madman has one that is better.
-cooler. I used a PermaCool PRM-3311 with fan, mounted in the front fender where the air filter for a CAI would normally go.
-trans shield, SFI-rated
-trans temp gauge
-braided lines for cooler
-modify stock M6 crossmember.
-shifter. I used the B&M Pro Ratchet, and fit it into the stock M6 console.
-ATF
-driveshaft

Obviously the SFI-rated stuff is only if you plan to pass tech for various ET's (flexplate and shield 9.99; trans shield 10.99.)

I have a few pic's available online if you are interested.

Finally, an "Administrative" item.... you are required to have your e-mail address visible. Go to the "profile" page and click "yes" in the appropriate box.

Hey Steven, I'll be pulling my tranny soon to get the converter tightened up, anyway I was wondering if the CSI shield fit pretty good (as in snug). I'm running the J&W Ultra bell so I don't need/want a full shield..

any insight?
