Insurance insight needed
well, the other day I was talking to someone who lives the san fernando valley who talked to his insurance company about 4th gen z28s and 3rd gens. they told him it would be $4500 a year!! after he told me that,my heart dropped and i knew my dream of owning a z28 would be over(for now at least). i then decided on the following cars/trucks:
Cars:
1987-1992 IROC/ Z28
1993-1997 V6 camaro
1995-1999 turbo DSM
1997+ grand Prix Gt/GTP
Truck:
1998+ V6 S10 xtra cab
1997+dakota V6 or V8(depending on insurance
now, i was wondering if anyone could give me rough estimates based on the following info:
Insurance company: Mercury
location: San Fernando Valley
car will be registered under under mothers name
I(17 years old) will be as a secondary driver w/o good student discount
if u need any more info, just say so
thanks in advance
EDIT: I added the 87-92 IROC/ Z28

That is NOT true. It wouldn't be that much. It could easily be $2000-$2500, but no way in hell would it be $4500. You'd have to get several tickets first.
In any case, of the cars you listed, I would pick the 3.8 Camaro, or the 4.3 S10. Don't go rice, man.. At your young and impressionable age you might get addicted and adopt ricer delusions and tendencies.
The way to make a 4.3 S10 cool, IMO... Is to drop it down to a "sport" stance, 17"s, (NO Altezzas) and you can do a couple things to wake it up even more in the hp department.. Those 4.3s are fast little buggers.. It'll suprise ya!

Zack,
A V6 is something to consider because its lower rates, but who wants a V6 hehe. (that was a joke, no offense intended) Heres what I did, I bought my car 2 years ago when I was 19. There was no havin a V6 for me, Z28 or nothing. I got my Z and I went with just liability. I only drive down the street to work and put less than 10,000 miles a year on my car even though I drive it year round. (soon to change since im buying an suv, and will keep my baby in the garage during the week) I have big plans for the car so I dont want it to be my daily driver. Anyways back to the subject, I pay around 1000 a year for my liability coverage, which saves me a ton over the full coverage of like 2500 a year. I have AAA by the way. Since you will be under your mothers name it will be a little less. The main thing to consider however, is whether you want full coverage or just liability. I figure Im a careful driver, for the most part, so Im willing to risk that I will not total my car. So far I have owned it two years and have saved $3000 in insurance and have only had a minor incident with a shopping cart...overall I would say it worked out and I have been able to dump that 3 grand into mods
There has been some steals on Z's lately that have tempted me to buy a second one, good luck with your purchase.

For that question I would talk to your insurance provider. I don't know for sure but I would imagine the liability would be the same because it still qualifies as a fast sports car. Full coverage would probably be less though because the value of the car would probably be less than a 4th gen. Once again it really comes down to whether you want to get full coverage or just liability.
