I believe you only need to bleed through the uppermost screw. Not the one that connects to the thermostat housing, but the other one. If you have bled that until only coolant comes out then you should be fine there.
What do you mean by overheating? You said you ran at 140? My temp guage starts at 160? I run consistently at 185 - 200 and do not consider that overheating.
If you are talking 220 and above, then I would check the watewr pump and make sure it is not weeping. Other than that a flush/re-fill?
