Wide tires on stock rims?

What are the widest tires I could put on my stock 16.5" rims. I was thinking that when I get some new tires I'd get like 275's or 285's. What do you think?

no way...i think the biggest "safest" tire would be a 255

First off, your stock rims are 16x8", not 16.5. The widest tire I've ever run on stock 16x8 rims was a 265 Kumho race tire, but for a street tire I don't think you'll find anything other than a 245 or 255 that has the proper (or even close to proper) size.

285's.............., with all this 315 talk you should try and stuff one of those on there

I've heard of ppl using 255's with no problems.

Re: Wide tires on stock rims?

interesting...friend of mine power slide and scrapped his rim up. maybe his tires were gripping a little too much then, instead of spinning???

Re: Wide tires on stock rims?

If the tire is too wide for the rim, it starts bowing in the middle and you end up with less of a contact patch.

Goodyear lists approved rim range and optimum size in their tire details.
